Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

I just thought it was so weird looking, and feeling. Lovely pics, sorry been trying to keep up on here and it's near impossible lol. They are so weird feeling, and the moisture that leaks out of them makes it even weirder. Welcome

Listen to the logic!!! lol I'm waiting for a fart egg lol. I don't allow the seramas to free range, mostly because they haven't been truly introduced to the rest of the flock, and their size. They sure are spitfires though!! I have a feeling these little boys would try taking on an eagle to protect their lady or ladies. Ours go into a rabbit cage that we move around the yard that does not have a bottom and only when we're outside. I know of people who do allow them out and about, but I don't know if they are truly free ranging or if they just have a very large aviary. Next year I plan to have a fully enclosed run for the seramas, but I know I won't have the time to get that and their coop done before winter, which is why ours will be indoors this year. BTW how old is your serama?
Ugh quoting is hard on the phone .... I am listening to the logic don't worry lol WOW chilly last night and this morning!!! Can't wait for the warmer weather to return, I am not quite ready for it to get cold just yet!!!!

I feel so bad for our lonely serama. I will definitely get more to keep her company. One of the eggs under our silkies was a serama egg. I'm so sad they are all duds

I can't wait to see your pics.

Thanks everyone for the advice on the chicks. I'm just so disappointed since this was my first time dealing with a broody.

I was out in the yard with the kids. My husband just cleared a bunch of land to build my new coop. The dirt must be perfect for ground wasps (cicada killers) because they are everywhere! Freaks me out because they are huge! I told the kids to stay away. Looks like we will be doing some late night wasp killing soon. Hopefully it goes better than our ground bee incident. Hubby poured gasoline down the hole, not realizing he left a trail back to the gas can, right next to the truck. He lit the hole and the trail of gas ignited and went back to the can full of gas. It was scary but once it was over I was laughing so hard. If I caught it on camera it would have been a YouTube hit for sure

Try not to burn them out if you don't have to. So long as you leave them alone, cicada killers don't tend to be too agressive to humans.

I've got a nest of burrowing bees next to our sunroom, that is taking all my patience not to burn out. They've stung me once, and I'm REALLY tempted, but I end up reminding myself that polinators are in short supply, and we have another entrance to the sunroom.

OMG this weather is fantastic! Operation Barn Modification is well under way. I got 16ft of cage framing to put up. I actually have zero eggs in the bator right now! I have been hatching for 11 months, right through winter! I will put some in to hatch in October, but I am taking a well needed break! After the October hatch, taking a longer break! I will be having some breeder/layer hens for sale soon, I am going to get down to the "keepers" very soon.

My understanding is that ground bees/wasps are pretty agressive...I've been tagged a few times myself, The ground hornets that kill the cicadas I think don't have stingers....they are just really intimidating....

The reason we burned them that time is because my daughter was 2 and when she was playing in the yard, disrupted their nest. I never heard her scream like that before. I looked over and she was covered in bees. She didn't know to run so she stood there, frozen and they kept pouring out of the nest. I grabbed her and was trying to swat them off of her. Ended up coming in the house and putting her in the shower to get them off of her. I still cringe thinking about it. I read that about the cicada killers too. Problem is they made their nests right next to the pool so when the kids walk over there they have to avoid 10 + nests.
