Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Getting everything ready for the wedding. Moving step-daughter and grandkids back in (hopefully for the last time). Being diagnosed with diabetes. Going quietly insane. Yeah. I promise to be back and posting after all this chaos.

Hopefully you can find some time to yourself to unwind and relax

having anyone living with you is always a little stressing. I hope your diabetes isn't too bad and easy to keep under control. The closest thing I have had to it is gestational diabetes and that was no fun

Haven't tried salsa making yet.... might have to give that a try also.. Thanks

I don't make salsa often but when I do I always add some really tiny diced bits of peach - it just gives it a little kick of something different!

Yaaaaaay some rain this morning, my lawn will be happy as some small parts of it were going a lil brown!

Hubby might be home tonight instead of tomorrow night, although the 10 day rotations for work pay really well - it makes me miss him heaps. He will get to meet our 2 new RLS's also!!

I don't have anything interesting to post..............but I do enjoy reading all your posts...........

I have a few windows in my coop that I plan to cover with plexiglass for the winter.

I could use some advice.

when they say no drafts.................I imagine my rectangle plexiglass cover will still allow air in around the sides.........yet block out the big wind and large amounts of cold air............is this okay?

also there are some large spaces between boards etc...............will I need to fill those spaces with something...........caulk or fabric or???? to what degree do you all winterize. maybe I could put shingles on the back wall to add some weather proofing , if I have enough?

I only have 4 birds ............they do tend to huddle or cuddle together and I am planning on putting in a deep amount of pine shavings for warmth...........

I am much slower to do any construction since they are all here ...........kinda lazy on finishing it up.................just wondering if you all can share your expertise.

also this fall I will bag up leaves so that I can put them in the run for fun and warmth........

Started painting the coop last week. Took this weekend, built the second skylight, and got some shingles on the roof...

...but we ran out! I don't have enough left to cap the roof off. Short of buying another pack of shingles, any idea what I can do to cap the roof?

LC:

How many do you need? PM me....I may have a couple extras in my garage.

As far as winterizing: do not seal the Coop tight. You need ventilation and air flow. Just make it so there are no direct drafts on the birds. I always have vents cracked, windows don't seal tight, always a vent in the roof open. Chickens are far hardier than they look. I have no heat in mine, they do fine.

Another off topic and not chicken related comment.. Lol I am so excited, the kids are going back to school and I am starting to work at a Arabian horse farm.. Oh, I haven't ridden a horse in 14 years now and I am super excited to get back into the sport. I can't believe I let riding go for so long..
Your thing says York? Is the horse farm like public? Anyone can pay and come rid or just private? I would love to start riding again its been a few years for me to...I would love to get a horse but we dont have the land or money to at the moment. and just moving to this area with in the last year i havent figured out everything thats around me yet or were to go to do certain things!

Peach is really good to add ( I havent ever done it presonally but i have had it) do you just make your salsa the way you normally do and just throw some in or do you have a special recipe for it? or if you want some filler just to make some more jars you can throw in a diced up (fine) Zucchini they take on the flavor of whatever they are with...and we all know those buggers produce more then what you want or can even give away!!! So its a way to get more salsa and not to waste your zucchini.

No more tracks, the game cam only caught my guineas running around. Camera hogs lol.

Today I had a horrible start to my day. Doing my daily feeding rounds I found half my koi fish dead. Had a filter malfuntion. Seems that we have a leak and can't find it yet. When the water gets too low the pump stops pumping. I feel sick to my stomach.
