Blarney,, I hope something good comes of this. I hate doctors, but hopefully you found one who really cares.

Predator - lost two birds over the last two nights, both SFH. Stupid things won't go in the Coop. Looks like raccoon or possum, probably climbed over the fence. Just have to grin and bear it. Rifle is always loaded if it decides to appear while I'm around.

Mine don't get a choice as to whether they go in at nigjt or not. If JJ or I can't get them to bed I have a 10 yr old & a 6 yr old who chade them in. Actually, the kids put the birds to bed almost every night when they are home. That's their evening chore after supper. All of my birds are penned so that helps. Plus everyone who can fly has at least netting over the run. This helps a lot in getting everyone to bed. The birds are actually so used to the process that several of the pens will actually put themselves in & wait for the doot to be closed any time my kids come near the pens aftet about 5pm.

Sorry to hear you've lost a couple....I haven't used it but coyote urine should make smaller critter clear out ....http://www.critter-repellent.com/p/1SA010DL.html?gclid=CKTS_bCKoboCFQyg4AodJTcAIA

Hey everyone-----------I just want to check with all you chicken experts on here! ------I have told several friends etc........that my chickens will likely LOVE to eat the parts of the pumpkin that they will be throwing away --------------you know the insides-----------the pumpkin guts and seeds..............

Many people just carve their jack o lanterns and throw away all the stuff inside of the pumpkin.............

so I told them that if they wanted to save the pumpkin guts and seeds in a ziplock bag and freeze it.............I would love to then share it with my chickens.

There isn't anything wrong with this................right?

My chickens wont overdose or somehow have some pumpkin related ailment.............right?

If a few people do this then I will have a few pumpkin frozen packages that I can thaw and serve over the next few weeks........................

What do you all think?
you will not over dose your birds. pumpkin seed it also a natural wormer. let go at it.

With the woods backing up to my runs, predators will happen. Work schedule doesn't allow me to be there at Coop time, and trees and size make covering tough.
Afraid coyote urine might attract coyote.
I do have a fence charger, just need to re-string wire and replace the battery.

..hahahaha...you know we have actually been hearing 'howl-bark' like the coyote do...up a ridge near a neighbors place..they have chickens that free range..and I mean free...like not going to the coop, but in the tree/bushes kinda thing, and they have large goats , a horse...i am not sure of what other critters...anyway, never heard them close like that before. People hunt for them around the area, but not this is close! Definitely keeping the leash on the Pom. for night-potty!...I hope your birds will be left alone, for awhile anyway...geesh.

Good morning all. I have three eggs still sitting under my mama from my hatch two days ago....how much variance is there in egg hatching? My understanding is 20-21 days...are these eggs still viable or should I chuck them? TIA!

as I have only hatched one time before and used an incubator, I can only give the little I know. It is generally 20-21 days, but I have heard of it going a bit longer or sooner, if i am remembering correctly, mine started at 18-19. Not 100% sure though, don't have my notebook here. Maybe if she is still sitting well on them, give them some more time?...Again, not as educated as well as others, but JMO, I would give them more time....what day are you on?

Hope everyone has a good day!!
