Stake-----------your chicks looks soooo cute..............awesome!

You are really advancing in your chicken raising adventures! lots of hens...............2 roosters.............and now chicks hatched in your yard! so cool!

I imagine you are enjoying this new hobby.....

Yep:

In the backyard realm, I'm in tall cotton... its all been good.. and my neighbors like this 'adventure' too...it makes it so easy for me...I am already musing...."if I only had a few more acres"

Hey everyone-----------I just want to check with all you chicken experts on here! ------I have told several friends etc........that my chickens will likely LOVE to eat the parts of the pumpkin that they will be throwing away --------------you know the insides-----------the pumpkin guts and seeds..............

Many people just carve their jack o lanterns and throw away all the stuff inside of the pumpkin.............

so I told them that if they wanted to save the pumpkin guts and seeds in a ziplock bag and freeze it.............I would love to then share it with my chickens.

There isn't anything wrong with this................right?

My chickens wont overdose or somehow have some pumpkin related ailment.............right?

If a few people do this then I will have a few pumpkin frozen packages that I can thaw and serve over the next few weeks........................

What do you all think?

Lisa:

If you get a pumpkin, throw it into the pen....your girls will work on it.....as far as I know, no ill effects on chicken eating pumpkin...for my girls or my pooch who has eaten more than all the girls put together...

Life is good. We got a suggestion from a surgeon today that has left my son pain free for the first time in over a week. So WOO HOO!!! Sometimes doctors don't suck.

Hello Folks,
For those of you in SE PA, where do your get your feed, etc? I am in Delaware County and will be getting chickens for the first time in a couple weeks. Thanks!
I get mine either at Davis Feed Mill Inc (about 30 minute drive from me) or at a feed store at Bensalem (if you google feed store Bensalem, it will pop up), I never remember the name lol, I get my food (crumbles, corn, scratch) from Bensalem along with feeding troughs and waterers but I go to Davis to get straw, medicine, nutrients, and a few other things that the Bensalem one does not carry.

Light Sussex pullets for sale
Hi,
This is Karen in Ligonier, PA. 15658-9226 . I breed Light Sussex. I have been raising some real nice ones now for 7 months. I have 6 pullets I need to place as I downsize the flock for overwintering. These birds have never been off my property and never been sick. I do have an NPIP number. These April-hatched pullets are near point of lay and should be starting to lay in Nov. Someone is already laying but I don't know which one, smile. My birds were hatched April 1st, 15th and 28th. The purebred breeding was a 1/2 bro to 1/2 sis breeding with a common sire. These pullets fail in critical show points as their silhouette is more narrow in the rear like a layer. I am striving for a "roaster" silhouette. Their dam is my best layer. It is not uncommon for her to lay 2 eggs in 36 hours. She is molting now and laying every day right thru the molt. These pullets need to go into an egg flock. They should not be bred from as they are inbred in their genes. The bird in my avatar is the 1/2 sister of their dam.
Tho it cost me much more than this to raise them, I will let them go for 1 quan. 50 lb. bag of Southern States Breeder Layer per bird ( available at Agway). We do have a local Agway here in Ligonier which carries this feed. You must pick up. I cannot ship at this price because it is dirt cheap for birds like this. Their quality is the same as a quality-bred purebred pet puppy. First come, first serve.
You can see pics of the birds here. http://s1278.photobucket.com/user/ELSussex/library/?sort=3&page=1

Junior is the sire. The hen raising the chicks in the coop is the 1/2 sister in my avatar. The dam of the "for sale" pullets is the pullet on the left in the picture captioned "Push Me -Pull You".
Best Regards,
Karen

Temporary solution, we see another surgeon Monday. We are hoping for a better solution as this guy has done studies on the particular problem we are dealing with. And you're not prying, I offered the info, it feels good to share something positive as we have been on a rough road as of late and it's been dragging me down a bit.
