I don't worry about the chickens as much as I worry about slipping on the ice and breaking a hip.

Well:

Pisses me off...was out side around 4:30 and the chooks were still scratching around,,,,,went to close the coop and the last baby chick didn't make it into the coop...searched for about an hour and couldn't find her....hope she shows up tomorrow morning.....

My hubby told me a guy at his job wants to buy my tukery feathers. He is an Native American and is very active in his tribe and they use turkey feathers in thier headdresses and such for cermony dress. How cool that my turkey feathers will be used in real Native American ceremonies.

Wow I am so tired, haven't slept since Saturday night/ Sunday morning 4am. My rottweiler had 7 puppies this morning. She is getting used to being mom now. I will be sleeping on the couch again to make sure she doesn't hurt the puppies tonight while sleeping. Couldn't get good pictures since they are so dark, looks like a black mob.

There is one variety of heritage turkeys created specially for using the feathers in place of bald eagle feathers. They are called Black Mottled, and that's the variety that my nieces have on their farm. I hope they can sell some of those feathers when they molt. I am very interested in genetics, and this variety happens to breed true when crossed to a Royal Palm, so I am getting an RP tom to cross to the black mottled hens. Wierd that there is only 1 gene difference that turns a bird from mostly white with a little black, to mostly black with a little white.

I really hope we get a lot of eggs next spring.
