Quote: we plan to move to the farm this summer,,,we will be putting pasture grasses in an running a few cattle an other livestock thru each year....since we plan to o all of our own processing this is the area that skirts the law in places,,,but then we figure that doing this ourselves saves so much more than paying the butcher.

poultry falls under different categories than the swine beef or rabbit would...it is all mind boggling an one thing contradicts the next..

the bottom line is doing things legally an still keeping cost down so the average person can afford it,,, i try to go as chemical free an natural as possible but health an safety has to play a role, so I can not advertise as so...

see where one program will overlap another,,,,and they wonder why people ignore the laws an regulations

I hear you!

Are you really going to be shipping anything out of state?

Below this is the federal provisions, not sure what would happen if someone not tested as stated ends up sending an AI bird, could really suck. Do you have paperwork stating your are AI clean for how many days? like I said you are not the first I am coming accross that is checking in to making sure they are getting the correct labs done. You can do a trach swab every 90 instead of draw, which should be esp nice since it gets cold in winter and harder to drawl. U.S. Avian Influenza Clean. This program is intended to be the basis from which the breedinghatchery industry may conduct a program for the prevention and control of avian influenza. It is intended to determine the presence of avian influenza in breeding chickens through routine surveillance of each participating breeding flock. A flock and the hatching eggs and chicks produced from it will qualify for this classification when the Official State Agency determines that they have met the following requirements: (1) It is a multiplier breeding flock in which a minimum of 30 birds have been tested negative for antibodies to avian influenza when more than 4 months of age. To retain this classification: (i) A sample of at least 30 birds must be tested negative at intervals of 90 days; or (ii) A sample of fewer than 30 birds may be tested, and found to be negative, at any one time if all pens are equally represented and a total of 30 birds is tested within each 90-day period; or (iii) The flock is tested as provided in §145.14(d) at intervals of 30 days or less and found to be negative, and a total of 30 samples are collected and tested within each 90-day period; and (2) During each 90-day period, all multiplier spent fowl, up to a maximum of 30, must be tested and found negative within 21 days prior to movement to slaughter. ANOTHER PLUS to adding the AI testing is that you are then part of the indemnity program, so if its found in your flock you can gain some of your losses back as there is SUPPOSED to be funds in federal in such case. its at the end of the provisions book.
For those of us with less than a certain number of birds (can't remember the number without digging out my paperwork) they only ai test yearly. We are considered ai monitored, not ai clean. The pt testing is done yearly & is certified clean. You void those certifications if you bring in untested birds without quarantining & having the vet come test those birds before adding them to your flock. As far as quarantine goes, if the birds are tested npip doesn't require quarantine. I still quarantine for 30 days anyway.

There are no other provisions than what i just pasted. AI clean and monitored is the same, your are clean from the testing and you are monitoring as stated in the paste, every 90 days or the 30 days or whatever it says in the AI lsiting. There is no AI clean vs monitored, its called AI Clean as stated above, look at the NPIP levels there is no "monitored" that is saying you are doing the extra testing for AI every 90. I went over all that with the state doc. And there is not a special section for people with this or that many / amount of birds. There is one provisions book and that pdf is it. Again, its your call but I would definately go a step above and ask to talk to the state rep on the issue and have that piece of mind. in the event anything does happen and your not testing as stated you wont get funded. But your guess is how much AI is out there? not so much 5 & 7 but there is ALOT of other AI's running around. We got specifics at our PA CPT class straight from Nan.

Pulled out my papers & checked. AI & PT testing are both done yearly. Not sure how well these pix will show but here is our paperwork.

There are big differences between states as to how testing is done & what is required.

Silky I am not reading that AI is annual it just suggesting that AI and other tests are Voluntary and it states to refer to the Federal Final code provisions parts 145-147 (the PDF I have posted)

This is really interesting,

check out the federal 9-3 we have.... this is a revised addition does your have a date or anything like this says 2011? Its the same form found on the NPIP site I cant find yours!
