I did!!! did you? I separated the serama from the brahma I have growing out, I couldnt deal with wire so I used skids for a temp fix! you should hear both sides squalking all mad, now the serama dont have those big butts to keep them warm!!

I had a 4 month old brahma step on harmonys frizzle hen she had babied and was best buds with, So I figured it may be best to separate the serama from the BIG BABIES, Harmony was devastated, hence the 50 million eggs heading into the bators tomorrow morning! It was a dumb move but I hated removing them since the serama loved keeping warm with them :*( mommas bad.

Todays nice weather was a perfect time for coop and run cleaning.   As you know its part of their Christmas present.

I found the cleaning to be easy........and was actually fearing it because due to the snow and cold I had not cleaned as frequently.

I was worried about my chickens who are due to start laying maybe having laid an egg in an unusual place and it having frozen and burst.
I found no signs of this.

So now with the nice weather and sun.......
a cleaned out and refreshed nest box
some treats
and Christmas time
perhaps the girls might start laying?    It would be a nice surprise

I am in the gathering of materials phase of my next build.

looking for bigger pieces of wood for the side walls
flooring material like vinyl..........I do have some floor tiles
and more wood in general.

not sure about the new location...........concerned about a gulley that would be a good location given my yard but not good because of drainage......
not sure how to really improve that without excessive work.

Whatever you do, DO NOT put a pen on a slope! I speak from personal experience. As we all know, the birds strip every scrap of green they can reach as quickly as possible. That leaves bare dirt. Add a little rain or ice & the first time you step into the pen you land on your butt! LEVEL GROUND ONLY FOR PENS!!!!!

I also got tired of tripping in the holes that the ducks are drilling....maybe I should rent the oil company a few ducks, they can drill as good as any machinery

I landed on my rump so many times I refused to go in the pens any more until we moved. I hate falling in duck poop!!!!!
