Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

I was there! I didn't get to see all that I wanted to. I'm going to try to head back on Thursday to see more.

Nice buff Orpington cockerel was Best English and Reserve Champion, saw some real pretty white leghorns and beautiful Bantam Coxhins.

Sally that White CCL Sport is Gorgeous!!

I had 2 coops out today and 2 coops in, it was 1 degree when I was watering this morning and those birds were out. They did not look too happy, but they were all out, so far no I'll effects. I do not do the Vaseline thing on the combs even my Marans boy who's got a pretty big comb and he's been fine. I did see some combs with frost bite at the show today.
aww, man..your going AGAIN??!! see...being closer to that kind of stuff is nice....love living here in the Yukon, but being able to go to places like that again..oh well...always have to sacrifice something to get something...
Just standard single. I've got lots of black spots on combs, I think. Orpingtons seem to be worse. I had some last year, too. Ugly, but survived. I have lots of spares, never got to process any, so I'll be fine.
Taking care of neighbors ducks for a few days. They don't seem to care about the cold. Two got put today, my fault. I'm glad nobody saw me chasing those buggers through the snow.

Nothing like Mother Nature whipping your *** and putting you in your place.
I slipped, like in an old three stooges movie, both feet straight up in the air and flat on my back. I am laying in 2 degree weather laughing at myself. HA! I get up and check on my girls and the home depot water supply that was supposed to stay warm turned into an orange 5 gallon lollipop with all frozen nipples.
There was still water in the other heated waterer which is just a plastic rectangular bowl. It was low and needed refilled. So I walk 350 feet back up the hill and get more water. I came back down even more cautiously and still managed to fall again and roll down the hill with a gallon milk container of water. I was freakin frozen down there.
I got up went to the coop and put the water in the bowl. I grabbed my chair and stepped into the coop and sat inside with them to warm up a bit. All 24 of us just sitting there looking at each other. Me in my chair and them in there roosts.
hope you are going to be okay..better get some heating pad up on that soon, cause the after effects are going to get ya!!...Sorry I laughed at your story...it does sound funny

.....Be careful out there all!!!!
The chair in the coop, yeah..I have a little low-rider chair "chick chair"...i sit in the run with them when I need a break..or just want something funny to watch...the neighbors literally come out to have their smokes and look at me like i am nuts...shhhh, don't tell'em...cause it is funny to watch them too

are we ready for the heat wave coming....think it will hit the teens today......seriously are you guys aware that alaska has been warmer than us...

someone want to go to work for me, it is a 12 hour shift of 3 to 3....do not know why, we are not busy right now, sometimes I think they just like to screw with us at the last minute...

careful !!! all you folks falling, bones are fragile..

I am rambling on here so that I can put off going out in the cold,,,, my bones are starting to fight back........How many more days do we have till spring....not sure it matters if you remember spring from last year,,,,still cold..

Hope you are feeling OK after your falls... the next day usually does hurt worse, as Sally said.
Glad we aren't the only ones with chairs at the coop, we have spent many hours just 'visiting with the birds' when we go out to do our evening chores and treat time. It does pay off.
One of our little barnyard mixes who is just 16 weeks old was always people shy till I started making a point to single her out for special treats and attention in the evenings... one of our warmer days last week she was being chased around by a young roo when I was walking to the coop, when she saw me she made a beeline for me and literally hid behind my legs. I shooed the rooster away and went into their run and was about tripping over her for the next 10 minutes, she stuck that close. She now routinely approaches me... a total 180 from 4 weeks ago. Her two hatchmates are about the same. So time just spent 'chilling with the peeps' can have extra benefits.
We just brought 2 new ones in to our little flock & they are both so skittish. Our Buff Orpies are extra friendly. The little Golden Laced Wyandott seems to be coming around a little bit. She does hover around me a bit at treat time but if I try to get too close she runs. The Black Australorpe is still quite distant with me but she is the one that gets picked on the most by Gracie, the older hen. I hope they both will become more approachable. They don't seem to really know what to do with any treats I give them except the oats & dried mealworms. Not sure if it's cause they came from big flock & didn't get as much attention or treats. We spend as much time as we can with the girls & they seem to like the attention. We to have taken chairs out & say in the run with them when it was raining just so we could enjoy watching them....glad the neighbors didn't see us...lol

I raise 7 types of pheasants 150 in all. I also have ducks geese peacocks and some huge Flemish giant rabbits { 37 lbs.} My wife would love to have some button quail in our house for her to baby. She is great with all my birds and I would love to make this happen for her. My problem is no-one has heard of button quail here in northern Wisconsin. If any-one can help me find 15 to 20 it would be fantastic. I have already built the correct cage to house them and have done a lot of research as to food and care. please contact me with any ideas. thanks....carver.   p.s. I chainsaw cut wooden bears for a hobby.  contact Greg at 9205597479

Darn! too late I sold all buttons! I will have to tell chad to come have a look at your post, he wants to get into pheasants and peacocks!

I thought Chad had buttons! I'm thinking that Seramas may be the way to go for my youngest. We botched a hatch of D'Uccles recently, and she was really counting on having a small breed to do Showmanship with. Boo. What is the temperment like on this breed, Sally? What variety do you have?

No I bought his butts then I hatched some Sharron sent and then I sold them BACK to ELI, thats who Cha Cha got them from!! LOL!!!! I am breeding for the frizzle, so she would need to find out what is acceptable for show, she may need to find pure Malasian

I also have serama,,, they may be available,,,,they are actuallly hubby's, but since I started with the bantam cochin, we like them better....

I have 2 rooster and 1 hen that will be 2 this summer...(this hen is a major brooder )
then i have 3 young hens that are late summer hatches and have not started laying yet....I think these are originally from Sally's first stock, I got them from Eli...
Blarney if your daughter would be interested in these older one's , she would be welcome to them...
