She's actually getting around pretty well considering her lack of feet. It really doesn't seem to bother her at all. She objected more to the butt fluff trim than anything I did to her feet. She's a bit off balance, so she holds her wings out to steady herself. She is in a small brooder so doesn't have to go far for anything she needs. We shall see how she does & probably build her her own box for her & a friend.

Awww, poor girl for losing her feet, but I get the feeling she'll be getting a good life now.

Not in the house, but maybe the garage. I only have the snake & turtle in the new house. No kitties allowed in either. They have to stop at the garage. I may just make her an elevated platform in the coop where I can put soft bedding but still clean out easily. It will be better to give her a smaller area with her limited mobility. If I run a roost beside her "apartment" the other birds will be able to visit her without hurting her. There is a little smooth showgirl in the brooder with her that I am thinking may make her a good friend when I'm ready to move her. It's the only banty close to her age. Even though she's large fowl I think a banty friend would be better.

I am getting an All American pressure canner as a belated Christmas gift as soon as we can comfortably afford it. As a truck driver, my husband spends a ton of $$ on truck stop food everyday. He is looking forward to eating my cooking, and I am looking forward to saving money! It actually breaks down to the canner costing what he spends in one week in truck stops.

I got a Presto one & we are quite happy with it. As I said, I don't can on a real large scale (as yet....lol). I'll can my salsa & tomato/spaghetti sauce this year though rather than freezing it. I did refrigerator pickles in the past & will also now can those now too. In the new Ball book I bought, it has a recipe for canning beef stew, I want to try that this year too with venison. I wonder if it will taste like Dinty Moore beef stew? I used to love that stuff but it is way too high in sodium so I never buy it any more.

I got a pressure cooker for Christmas (thank you very much, future son in law!) and am now shopping for the canner. What brand do you recommend? And why did the water bath canner kit say not to use it on a glass top stove? That is what I have.

Update on my little pullet with frostbite:

She now has a name, Miss Stumpy. Her feet have fallen off. I gave her a soak in warm diluted peroxide water to clean her stumps.


I also trimmed the fluff around her vent & the tip of her tail because it was getting poopy.
Then she got painted with blu-kote.


Then she got new pink boots.


She's now back out in the brooder in the garage with 4 other chicks half her size. She tried to shake her boots loose a couple times but then decided a drink was a better idea. I'll unwrap her in about 2 days & see how she looks. She will be getting more electrolytes & antibiotics in her water for a few days.

I use mine on a glass top all the time,,,it is also my soup pot....be careful not to drop or slide it though,,, I have scratch mine from sliding the canner.
