I have a glass top, also. For large pots I use my Turkey fryer or a propane two burner Coleman camp stove OUTSIDE. Rather not have the heat in the house during vegetable Canning season anyway. Of course I also grill in the snow and do my beer boils outside in the winter. I like the camp stove a lot. Good control, enough heat output for most things. Jmo.

Oh, that poor thing!!!

.....Stake, bake up some crumpets to go with that Blackberry jam & we'll be right over!!
I have BCMs and OEs, send me a PM when the time gets closer if you're still interested.
We had an egg bound girl with a prolapsed vent, por thing. We seperated her (so the others didn't peck at her vent), gave her warm water soaks everyday, used honey to help slip the egg out and Preparation H to help shrink the vent up and get it back where it belonged.

ETA. We make blackberry jelly every summer with wild black berries. There is nothing as good as that jelly hot out of the pot on a piece of toast. I do wish I could figure out an easy way to get rid of all the seeds. I guess I could strain through cheese clothe, but seems so labor intensive. .
Preparation H....Honey? .would not have thought of that!! great info!! Thanks Blarney

I'd be interested in that recipe if you don't mind sharing it. I just started canning last year & this year my hubby bought me a pressure canner/cooker for Christmas and I love it. I already canned venison in it. Tonight at Lowe's they had a bunch of canning supplies on sale as well as a Ball Canning/Recipe book for $1.75. It has some really good recipes in it that I'll be trying out soon. Prior to canning, I froze everything I made, while it was good too, it took up too much space in the freezer. Canning is so much fun but I don't can for a whole family, just hubby & myself. You have a real sense of accomplishment when you open up that jar of food you processed yourself. Not to mention how much better most things I've done have tasted. I want to can beets this year too now so that I can make lots of pickled eggs with my girls eggs, by spring the 2 new girls should be laying too.
NO..NO..NO..you can't have it..ALL MINE...

I got a pressure cooker for Christmas (thank you very much, future son in law!) and am now shopping for the canner. What brand do you recommend? And why did the water bath canner kit say not to use it on a glass top stove? That is what I have.
the weight of the larger pots could crack the glass...we had looked at flat tops...and decided that with me at the helm & all the canning/cooking...aka-"bull in china shop

."..a regular stove would be the way to go for us.
looking like one of those days

we are looking to use ours when processing time comes for the water-feather removal....thinking better than in the house

Love to grill in all the seasons..

My pressure canner is an All American 921. The best thing about it is that it can hold 16 pint jars in one load. That's a very handy feature for things like chicken stock and tomato sauce.

I used to kill the large burners on my electric stove every few years becuase of overheating with a canner running all day. Now I have my dream stove, propane with 2 'powerburners' and a top grate that is continuous so pots can be slid off of the burner without having to lift them.

My niece's sis in law always does her canning in the oven no matter what type of food she is canning...so far I guess she has been lucky no one got sick or worse. I do admit to canning my venison last year in a hot water bath but this year I used the pressure cooker for it. When I was a kid, everything mom canned was done in a hot water bath too, people were more afraid of pressure canners back in that time. I just got to thinking, if the beef (venison) stew turns out good, I may try it with chicken...not any of mine of course but it does sound like it could be tasty.
