I just bought some Vaseline today.......just in case it drops down to polar vortex levels again........
sorry Lisa..i didn't catch this...I have missed a few posts/pages..i will go back & see.

I has a question also..IF anyone knows what the dosage/treatment, ( how long to administer), Tylan 50 for LF adults?...any help in this area would be greatly appreciated.
I have been reading..1 ML=1CC...and on one of those med.-charts they are saying to give LF adults 1-1.6 CC liquid ea. ..if anyone as used this product before and used different dosages, i would love to hear about it.
And of course , again..how long you had to administer the medication.

This is important..I am not just asking to know...I had to give my new BL-w a dose today (1cc)..to play it safe..because she is still having the "bubble" issue..and it needs to be rectified now or she is soup. I am not risking the others with this. Anyway..Thank You- Danielle

You guys are posting so fast! I was fifty pages behind. I actually read them all. Hey, I'm on vacation! Yay Poconos!

Silkie, your poor little chicken with the missing feet, I'm sure she will be okay, animals are tough!

Blarney, your rooster is so gorgeous! Even with cream on his comb and wattles.

I am getting so excited to get chicks soon, even though I don't yet have a source (help!). Where are you located Blarney? You look like you have some wonderful things hatching...

Welcome new people!

Has anyone ever hear of Backwoods Home Magazine? It is the BEST homesteading magazine out there, and I think many of you would enjoy it. The most recent issue detailed a homesteader who set up an indoor fodder system to grow several trays of greens for her animals in her living room, made out of PVC pipe!

Vacation ends tomorrow, and then I have a lot of packing and shipping to do on Ebay. Woo Hoo extra income!

Now we are headed out to dinner.

I have seen on "Pinterest" those "fodder" systems..nice, if your going that way! Hope your vacation was restful...and glad to hear of your "xtra-income maker" is panning out!
I blu-koted 2 roos & a hen. I think I have more on me than ended up on all 3 of them combined. I'm spotted from the waist up!

New Chick close up

My new chicks seem to do nothing but eat....

So in my girlfriends old shed, we thing this used to be a coup, so we decide we would rebuild...we plan on no more then ten, with 6-8 to start...

Frame out the bottom, make sure we have plenty of room for the ladies...

Floor is in

Put some old flooring down, to make it easier to clean inside. also frame out for hen boxes.

Starting the far wall

Outer wall with our chickie door, and we are done for tonight...

Will update you more as we get more done.
Cute chicks...what are they?...the coop is coming together nicely too!

ill be raising my first set of chickens this year going for a variety to see what will do best for me and my mini farm. 2 road island reds, one plymouth rock, one ameraucana, and araucana if i can get all the birds.
Hello & welcome

Suction cup feet made me think of Batman and Robin climbing up a skyscraper. Wee little caped crusaders.

Guys, I'm just over the moon with my new pair. My friends all look at me funny, so I figured I'd gush here.

•I'm so excited to actually have a pair. It's my first pair. My very first. They're chicken-keeping history makers.
•The rooster is a REAL rooster. He's absolutely fabulous. Nothing like I've ever had before. My dog followed me into the garage today where they are and the rooster threw himself in front of her. It was awesome. Later I went in and they were both sleeping/cuddling. I opened the door to the cage and when I started to pet the hen, she clucked and the rooster abruptly pecked me to let me know that tpuching his lady like that would not be tolerated. I was never happier to be pecked.
so happy for you!!

As you have seen, I treat after it happens (only because it's so crazy around here I don't have time to chase everyone down if I don't have to.) My chickens are just for eggs, not show. So messed up combs aren't an issue. They will only get frostbit combs once each so once it happens it's no longer a worry. I clean & blu-kote as needed. Feet I DO worry about, but nothing I can do if the goofy birds decide to stand in the waterer except treat it after the fact. The process I used is in several posts as it happened over the past 2 weeks.

We used Vaseline when we had the cold snap on a couple of the roosters with large combs, only had minor problems and the fellow with the trouble just had some skin peeled (possibly by one of the hens) so we used a bit of Blu-kote and it is about healed.

The Marans was the only one that got a little frost bite on her comb tips..I used Corona balm/ointment on her..it is white. worked well...until she scraped her first two comb sprigs off on the run fence
hmm.png
..then I used BlueKote for protection of infection and the other birds might see the little dried blood on her head. She is all healed up..wouldn't even know anything happened..except that she has a purple comb now..cause red(comb) & bluekote make ..purple..looks funny.
She has layed 3 out of the last 4 days..so happy!! they are beautiful looking eggs..Todd had a couple eggs the other day and he said they were the best tasting ever...very good!! She is they only one out of 6 that is laying right now...those wyandottes better turn it on soon...hahaha...

Why do people around here shoot after dusk?? Here is a shot I took the other night just as a shot rang out. Tonight it was pitch black, but I didn't have my phone. Doesn't seem safe, there outta be a law….oh, that's right, there IS.

B:

Its illegal to hunt after dusk....maybe somebody shooting a varmint or a poacher getting antlers or meat.....(or both)....
