I have seen on "Pinterest" those "fodder" systems..nice, if your going that way! Hope your vacation was restful...and glad to hear of your "xtra-income maker" is panning out!You guys are posting so fast! I was fifty pages behind. I actually read them all. Hey, I'm on vacation! Yay Poconos!
Silkie, your poor little chicken with the missing feet, I'm sure she will be okay, animals are tough!
Blarney, your rooster is so gorgeous! Even with cream on his comb and wattles.
I am getting so excited to get chicks soon, even though I don't yet have a source (help!). Where are you located Blarney? You look like you have some wonderful things hatching...![]()
Welcome new people!
Has anyone ever hear of Backwoods Home Magazine? It is the BEST homesteading magazine out there, and I think many of you would enjoy it. The most recent issue detailed a homesteader who set up an indoor fodder system to grow several trays of greens for her animals in her living room, made out of PVC pipe!
Vacation ends tomorrow, and then I have a lot of packing and shipping to do on Ebay. Woo Hoo extra income!
Now we are headed out to dinner.![]()
Cute chicks...what are they?...the coop is coming together nicely too!
New Chick close up
My new chicks seem to do nothing but eat....
So in my girlfriends old shed, we thing this used to be a coup, so we decide we would rebuild...we plan on no more then ten, with 6-8 to start...
Frame out the bottom, make sure we have plenty of room for the ladies...
Floor is in
Put some old flooring down, to make it easier to clean inside. also frame out for hen boxes.
Starting the far wall
Outer wall with our chickie door, and we are done for tonight...
Will update you more as we get more done.
Hello & welcomeill be raising my first set of chickens this year going for a variety to see what will do best for me and my mini farm. 2 road island reds, one plymouth rock, one ameraucana, and araucana if i can get all the birds.
Suction cup feet made me think of Batman and Robin climbing up a skyscraper. Wee little caped crusaders.
so happy for you!!Guys, I'm just over the moon with my new pair. My friends all look at me funny, so I figured I'd gush here.
•I'm so excited to actually have a pair. It's my first pair. My very first. They're chicken-keeping history makers.
•The rooster is a REAL rooster. He's absolutely fabulous. Nothing like I've ever had before. My dog followed me into the garage today where they are and the rooster threw himself in front of her. It was awesome. Later I went in and they were both sleeping/cuddling. I opened the door to the cage and when I started to pet the hen, she clucked and the rooster abruptly pecked me to let me know that tpuching his lady like that would not be tolerated. I was never happier to be pecked.

We used Vaseline when we had the cold snap on a couple of the roosters with large combs, only had minor problems and the fellow with the trouble just had some skin peeled (possibly by one of the hens) so we used a bit of Blu-kote and it is about healed.hey you all -------------I noticed that people didn't really vote on this............maybe you are not interested........or
