Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

We burnt through most of our wood pile as well this winter. Winter isn't over and I hope we have enough wood to make it through. We have to get to April and sometimes May. We had a huge pile this year and thought we might have a headstart on next years winter but no such luck. It has been soooooo freaking cold this winter. Well my chickens will be very hardy to survive this winter. Lost 4 chickens this year, all under 6 months old, so stinking cold. :(

Yes, wood is an issue here, too. I don't have anyplace to cut my own, so I have to buy it all. We have been burning a week's worth in 3 days. I was hoping to only get another load or two and be done. Looks like we will have to get another 4-5 loads. As for the chickens, I haven't lost any adults, just the chicks - all were under 2wks.

Everything I lost was bantam except 1 young polish roo. 3 calls, 1 ee roo, 1 smooth silkie, 1 smooth showgirl.
The remaining 4 call hens are now being pampered in the garage as are the 4 polish. My last ee banty hen is about 5-6 years old & a smart girl. She roosts on the rafter directly above the heat lamp & only comes down to eat & drink. Sometimes the 2 slate hens join her.

Beautiful pics! Thanks for the reminder, that 'this too shall pass'. We braved the elements to visit Longwood this past week, WELL worth it.the fragrance alone was staggering.

After finding a white egg 2 days ago that looked to small to belong to my sumatra hen (the only other white egger in the pen) I brought my 3 polish pullets & the young roo into the garage last night. We heard the egg song start up & went out to find Miss Alberta Einstein singing her little heart out & standing over this nice warm egg.

Our wood pile is also getting dangerously low. Hubby says the next day he has off we are going to work on cutting some more wood. What fun... his next day off is Wednesday... I sure hope we can get enough done to last for a few more days if not a week or two.

Awesome!
That's another bird on my Wish List. Polish...any color will do. Marans, Brahmas, Cream Legbars, D'Uccles, Cochins, Silkies,,,I have too big of a wish listl and not big enough of a coop. Must remedy this situation when the ground thaws.

Come on Spring! I got post holes dug to extend the run this past fall. Then DH had no ambition and the posts never got put in. If that had happened, I'd have finished the rest on my own. I am just going to have to take it upon myself to put those posts in as well. Never wait for a man to do a job with you when you can do it yourself. Should have learned that one from my Mom years ago.

Now to get him to go off on a vacation somewhere so I can get the coop and run enlarged while he's gone and out of my hair. ^_^
