You have a dozen....was 5 last time we spoke....might have to line you up for a reality show.....need to put your crew in your sig me thinks.....!

Well MsLadyHawke was an enabler. Sadly, a fox has tried to set me straight, and of her 4, only Duchess remains. In the meantime, the lady of my house decided that a colored egg basket was in order, and so 4 easter eggers came into the flock. (And 2 Jersey Giants I wrangled as part of the acceptance price.)

TLDR: Started with 8. Got 3 more. Lost 2. Lost 4, Added 3, Traded 1 for 2, Lost 2 added 6, lost 1.

I think that makes 12. Chicken math is hard!

I agree about the benefits of winter killing bugs. Hopefully it eliminates much of the tick population. 2 of my dogs had a vet appt yesterday & one tested positive for ehrlichia and one for lyme (his second time, despite immunization)

Isn't that an excuse for you to get horses? and a barn?
I have an ailing roo in a dog crate in my living room. My splash Marans roo must have gotten beaten up by his mates in the bachelor pen, and he was huddled in a corner of the pen, so I took pity on him, brought him inside, and made him some oatmeal. I was going to put him in the basement, and DH pointed out that there's no reason he can't stay upstairs by the fire.

Whiskey, one of my dogs, took it upon himself to lay beside the crate protecting him from any of the other dogs coming too close. It was so sweet.

I'm in the 'worth it if it kills of the bugs' camp.... it sucks because we've been pretty spoiled the last few years overall, but seems more like the winters I remember as a kid in the 70s... and 3 days w/o electric was normal even for mild storms back then if you lived on a road without someone 'important' in the area. And I don't remember missing school near as often as they do now for the bad weather. Seems like the bus companies and principles don't want to run busses anymore.
Ok, here's a wired one (at least by my account)....got my first egg from an 11month, two week old chook.....talk about a late bloomer....

Congrats on her starting! Seems to take forever sometimes, but I have to admit, I've never been stuck waiting 11+ months!

A buddy of mine works at Longwood, and one of his co-worker who lives on site needs to find a new home for his flock. Anyone here able to help?

These look perfect for a 4-H project (hint, hint) . . .

If these are gone, Craigslist is still a great place to look for chickens.

I was in 4-H (poultry and other stuff) as a boy and love the idea of giving back by helping another 4-H'er get a start with poultry.

You are right near a whole bunch of us! A good number of Chester County people on here. Were you looking for any certain breed(s)? Not interested in chicks at all? You can hand raise them and get them used to being held. I have porcelain d'uccle and bantam langshan started chicks right now if you are interested. Both from show quality stock. They are smaller breeds and more easily handled by younger kids. The kids will probably learn about showing at 4-H. Anyway, let me know if any interest. Good luck and welcome!
