Same exact thing happened this evening as I described yesterday. I took a picture of it:

You can clearly see the correct path back, but yet they can't figure it out. They think that one ways a path but they won't walk in snow so that obviously doesn't work. I carried two into the coop and the one flew across the snow again but made it this time

Ok question for all you experts. I'm getting my first few chicks tomorrow, 6-8 of them. They'll be probably a few days old or so from tractor supply. I'm picking up my wyandottes on Sunday which are partially feathered right now (one less than the others). Will I be able to put them all together or will I have serious issues if I try that?

I'd plan on keeping the 2 groups separate until you can gauge their size and temperament. You can try them after a week or so if you think they look to be similar size, or wait a while.

of course, sometimes it will work, but be prepared to seperate for awhile

I built 2 portable pens this weekend. Each is 4 ft square, made as a hoop pen, and has less than $25 worth of materials, but is light and sturdy. I'm very happy with them, but forgot to take pics! I tried telling my my aching muscles "pics or it didn't happen" and therefore they have nothing to complain about, but they are very insistent that they did indeed build them.

I will get pics next weekend.
