Anne, my chicks began getting loud at night even with a red bulb. I forget if you said how old they are, but I began turning off the heat lamp at night (yes, it was nerve wracking) and they slept through the night again. There were 6 in the brooder, and I think they were 3 -weeks- old. I did get a black light bulb. I couldn't stand not giving them heat at night. Oh! And they were on the (enclosed) back porch in April. So not in a warm(ish) house. The Leghorns were noisy from day one. If I ever do them again, it will be with a broody in the coop. Let her deal with them!![]()
Chippy, I am so happy for you!![]()
Thanks MC! I got my chicks two weeks ago today. The Black Austrolorp is a few days older than the rest, so I'm guessing they are all close to being three weeks old. I May start turning out the light next week. My Leghorn was noisy (and very lonely apparently) the first night, so we shut the door lol. She quit after about an hour and we haven't any problems since with late night shrieking, just scurrying around. I'm liking the broody idea more and more... I will have to do that in the future.
Just a heads up, the Lebanon Valley Poultry Fanciers meeting will be on 03/27/14. It was scheduled for this Thursday 03/13/14. We are planning our fall show. It doesn't matter where you live, this is just not for Lebanon County. Please join us!!!!
Where will this be located?
Pot... meet kettle!!!![]()
