I went to get new gravity fed cat/dog feeders today to put the oyster shell in for my hens. The silkies didn't appreciate it and wouldn't go near it. My layer flock all ran over to check it out. My rooster chased the girls away and examined the new thing and then called all the girls over to eat the shell. Silly rooster. Managed to snap a picture of them examining it with the rooster watching over.

I finally got the little stinkers. I couldn't take it anymore.

Ok guys. We managed to drag ourselves up off our butts and out of this gloomy house to work on the coop again. We're on the last wall frame and it's the one with the door for the chickens to go in and out. We have a few scrap pieces of wood that we were thinking of using up but we need to make sure it'll be big enough. Is an 11" x 16" Good enough size for them to go in and out?
Yes. Make it 11 inches wide and 16 inches tall.

I like that for size also, nice thing is that it allows for taller roosters and larger fowl... if you ever decide to go with brahma and/or Jersey giants you will be glad they have the room. They can fit through lower doors, but is nice when they don't have to try to 'fit'.
We have a big Barred Rock cockerel right now who measures 16+" a his back (only 6 months old)... he looks like he is part turkey! He has to duck a bit, but still fits out ok and our pop doors are 14" tall I think... if he gets much bigger we will have to cut them a bit taller for him.
