I often use 5 gallon buckets w lids. Easy to carry. I'd use the kitty litter buckets if I had them, I don't see any reason not to. The only container concerns I'd ever have would be if the previous contents were harmful and I had concerns about it not being completely removed.

I actually have used kitty litter buckets. Just don't push the lid down tight. Close it without sealing. They work great. (Assuming you are wanting these for fermenting.) If not fermenting, they still work great & you can close the lid completely.

My turkey hatch will be a bust, I removed all of those eggs last night, many never even started, wondering if that box went thru xray.-..so I am back in the search for midget whites....
Actually just about everything in that incubator was bad, wonder if my temps are not jumping around when I am at work....

I think most of the problems are caused by me not having the time to care for the incubator, they never get turned on time and I know the temps swing cause the thermometer keeps track of high and low...

Anyone with midget white poults or I would consider Beltsville if the price was right....
Is it to late to try and order them from a hatchery...

Try uphilljill. I just side swapped her for some Midget White eggs. She may swap or sell you some.
 
I use a galvanized trash can. The lids fit tight. I also store my birdseed and suet in them and I have never had any trouble with them except when I had my birdseed and suet cans on the deck and a bear not in them. Not a pretty site, everything all over deck! lol

My project today was to build a 16'x18' pen and move my grow out coop in there....my seven babies have been relocated along with two of my big girls. the one that the roo keeps attacking and another who spends most of her day running from both the roos....
