Storm moving thru, guess mother nature is telling me, it's time to quit for the day.

Still searching for large quantities of quail eggs, I hate buying from eBay.

I still owe you eggs. Would you like quail instead of the originals? I have several colors together in both regular & jumbo all together.

Works for me, I am always on the lookout for quail.

All:

My broody has only hatched one little one...I am going to give it a day or two more before removing the eggs...but, she has been on eggs for around 30 days....(the first two a week ago didn't make it, and her sister continues to lay in her box)....so....A) am I putting mama at risk letting her stay on eggs...B) she has only one baby...not preferred, but should I let her raise it or re-home?

Out of 16 chicks that I hatched it will look like I may have only 3 hens. I have a Golden laced Wyandotte rooster over Barred rock hens, that means the male chicks will be barred and the female chicks will be black, right? Out of the pure Wyandottes chicks all but one have red combs at 3 weeks old. Doesn't sound good for me having any hens huh?

Got 3 of 5 pens cleaned today, that has to be good for someone of my age.......nice big pile of crap to be spread tomorrow.

Is saying, I sat down and can not get back up the same as iv'e fallen and can't get up...cause I am there.

Purdy:

I tried to get things in too early....and lost all my seedlings to frost except one tomato.....re-planted cucs seeds twice and washed out twice...four gnarled seedling survived....two zucs survived....beans washed out once and the second planting is just germinating...have six stunted pepper plant...and about eight of the cabbage/broc are doing ok....I bought some peps and Toms and they are doing well...and I have nine tomato seedling that look sick after trying to harden them off...lettuce and radishes are 1/2 washed out and I will be re-seeding...still need to seed the melons and lopes...and my pink pumpkin didn't germinate yet... peas are about 8" tall (thought the chooks got 1/2 the planted seeds...)

cherries and pears didn't flower this year...peaches and blueberries are looking good...blackberries are looking pretty beat up and two of my grapes are having a hard time(four other grapes doing well)
My tomatoes were doing very well when they were stuck in pots. They're not doing as well transplanted. Supersweet 100 Hybrid is going yellow and wilting, and the rest are suffering from some serious transplant shock. About the only ones doing well are the Patio Princess container hybrids, and the ones I dropped in that big concrete bed, which for all our efforts is really just a big container.

Pepper and Eggplant starts on the other hand are doing really well. Go figure! Also on the solanum front, I'll be trying potatoes in feed sacks this year, in addition to the tire pile. (Got some extra seed potatoes, don't have more tires.)

You know what makes me sad this year? Brassicas. The Broccoli and Cauliflower are bolting already. The brussels show no sign of heading up. And all of them were savaged by the girls at least twice. I need to figure out where they're getting in through the fence!

Cukes and Zukes I didn't start this year. The wife is off in Lancaster right now picking up some seedlings. I'll probably drop some seeds for spaghetti squash as soon as I can pry myself away from this console.

My peas are near 4 feet tall at this point. And not a flower in sight. The vines are growing so well that the girls can't kill them, and given that they're trellised on the chicken run, I think this speaks volumes. Maybe we'll see a pea or two some day. :)

My bush beans took a full 2 weeks to germinate! I was just about to re-sow when they poked their heads up. (I had the seeds in hand and walked over to the bed when I noticed.) I managed to get the vining beans into the ground last night before the storm.

Onions are going well; the intercropped carrots never popped; I'm gonna try reseeding today, but I'm not holding high hopes.

Don't fear for your blackberries. They're super resilient. Might not get anything till the second fruiting though. How many years have you had these canes?

These are 2 of my EE's from this years bunch! They are both 13 weeks old so hopefully only about 3 more weeks until they start laying! Anyway, the cockerel's name is bacon and I don't know a name for my pullet. What do you all think her name should be? Oh, and next year these 2 are going to be together so do you think there is a good chance of their chicks having the same color as the hen since they both are blue and red?

You could call her Lacey... they are both going to be very good looking birds! Congrats!
as to the genetics question on their offspring... I am clueless on color combination questions... but there are a lot of folks on here much better educated about genetics than I am who will probably chime in soon.

A) as long as she maintains good body weight and you provide her with water and food nearby she should be fine, at this point another day or so is no problem. I've had hens stick to nests for 6 weeks and successfully hatch without problems. Give her some scrambled egg mixed with chick starter if you'd like to spoil her a little. Raisins, hulled sunflower seeds, peanuts, yogurt, cooked fish and tuna are also popular with our broodies..

B) Definitely let her raise it... if you remove it she may want to continue setting and at the very least it will probably freak her out trying to find it. Best case scenario would be if you could find her 2 or 3 one day olds to add to her little family. (honestly...that isn't an enabling attempt!

Sounds like you deserve a sit down! Take a break and a shot of your favorite medicinal beverage and enjoy the evening!

I can ship & have about 30 of the poliskies running around under 3 weeks old. I also have a few ee bantamms, rainbow babies & polbars (another project, polish x cream legbar, they have mohawks...lol) PM me for pricing. The more you take the better the deal I can make you...lol Trying to clear out as many as possible before the move next weekend.

I need a frizzle polish silkie that lays blue or green eggs......I think it should be your next project! Lol It would be the ultimate chicken! All my favs rolled into one!

Poliskies :)
I'll have to grab pix of a couple of the older ones who are starting to get afros. They have black skin, 4-5 toes per foot & smooth feathers. If you breed them together you get 25% silkie feathered next generation. If you breed them back to silkie you get 50% silkied next generation. The goal is 5 toes, black skin, silkied feathers & huge crests.

As for moving, U-Haul just loves me! All of my birds go right in the back of the truck with everything else, including the goat...lmao

I would love to see a picture of dome of the older ones. Super cute!
