Help!!!
I am hoping one of you seasoned chicken parents can help... My ccl, which I spent so much time looking for, is not putting weight on her one leg. One. Of my kids said they stepped on her- nice of them to tell me the day after- apparently when my older son put them in last night she was roosting on the top of their box, and she had been walking on both legs.... This morning she isn't putting any weight at all on the leg and it is just kinda ther... She will hop on one foot and even flew and perched with her good foot on the makeshift isolation pen- she hopped about 10-15 feet to get to her other flock sisters to be with them (after she flew and perched on the side of her pen), any clues what this could be? I am guessing broken leg, sprain, or dislocated hip, but I am clueless...

You can feel for a broken leg. I she never dealt with it, but believe they can be splinted and wrapped. It would be best to keep her isolated and calm with easily accessible food and water to give her healing time. Like a large dog crate in the living room ( maybe I'm the only one that uses that as a care facility).

Do what possible to keep her calm and resting and spoil her with treats like yogurt and oatmeal and mealworms.

Jmo, and I am not an expert in taking care of sick or injured birds.

I live right on the NY / PA border and my husband works at Tractor Supply in Warren, PA. I have conditional permission from the store manager there to hold a chicken swap the weekend of 9/27/14.

In order to hold this however we need at least 12 confirmed participants. If you are interested, send me a PM.

Thanks
P.S. All poultry would be welcome as well as anything poultry related.

Hello everybody! I am going to get my new hen from @roseschicks tomorrow. I have been to her place many a time. Do I still need to quarantine? I ask only because I been exposed to her chickens enough that my chickens were probably exposed to whatever came in off of my shoes from her place. We live about 10 minutes from her and I get eggs and visit her chickens often. Any ideas? My chickens usually free range and I don't know how I will successfully contain them for a month to quarantine.

The right answer is to quarantine, but in reality, my feelings are....

I don't worry about it in those situations. I have two neighbors with various poultry, ducks and chickens. We visit each other. The wild birds fly everywhere. Life is full of risks. I don't worry about it from certain limited people.

If I were to buy from auction or a swap it would be different. If I get some from wingstone 5 miles away where I've been regularly, I don't worry. I think I have more to worry about from all the wild birds and critters that are around. I'm trying to manage my property for wildlife, so that is the bigger risk.

Again, just my opinion. The right answer is to quarantine. It all depends on how much risk you are willing to accept. In also known to set up displays at tsc, and I don't quarantine when I return, but there aren't other birds there, either
