Feeling like I am in the twilight zone... Yesterday the 11 year old marches up to me with a rabbit In her arms... I am perplexed...where did this rabbit come from?? Do we have visitors?-the kind that bring their rabbit with them?....uh.. NO. 11 year old explains that the rabbit is hers and she and her brother each bought rabbits at the 4H fair last week and have been hiding them in her bedroom closet. Whaaaat!? Really? They only came clean because the rabbits ran out of food.:/.

Today 15 yr old surfaces with a duckling....wait a minute, now where did THAT come from? We sold all of our ducklings.... He says 'there are 2, they just hatched'. What?? That hatch was over last week. I was very surprised that more eggs didn't hatch and now I know why...there were some Muscovys in there. GoodNESS! Never a dull moment around here, I'm telling ya!

That sounds a lot like what my kids did. Daughter hid a cat from her father for about 2 weeks. Then for 2 weeks he kept saying that she needed to return it. Guess who has a cat? Not me, not her, him. It is his cat. This was 7 years ago. cat is here, daughter is 1000 miles away.

This is my 2 teen daughters. Their father hates animals so they have a cat living in their closet. The step-mother knows about it & helps them hide it. I hope it fares better than the last 3. He killed all of those. He also killed 3 cats that I had gotten the kids years ago when we were together. Says a lot about his personality & why he's the ex doesn't it?

My kids don't try to hide animals. They know mom lets them keep pretty much anything they will take care of on their own. The 7 yr old has a snake, between the 7 & 11 yr old they have 5 bunnies, we have 2 adult cats, a half grown kitten & 6 babies that are 2 1/2 weeks old...then there are all of the birds. My son has a quad of polish, my daughter has a quad of silkie/sizzles, plus they have each laid claim to numerous hens, roos, drakes, ducks, toms & turkey hens. They pretty much try to claim everything I hatch. They are learning that we have to cull the flocks at times though. We just can't keep everything...lol

Those of you with Ducks...any idea how to stop egg eating??? I've had the occasional egg eater from my Ducks. I have someone who wants eggs so i have to collect them, so of course my Ducks wait until I NEED their eggs to decide they want to eat them. Yesterday I go in the coop and both duck eggs have been broken in half and yolk. Today they only got to one. I have 5 eggs, I was planning on sending them out monday with 8-9eggs..I only have 5..and only get 2 eggs a day. Any ideas on how to help?

I've never had ducks deliberately break & eat eggs because the shells are usually way to hard. The only time I ever have problems with the duck eggs is when they aren't getting enough calcium & they accidently break the eggs by stepping on them because the shells are too soft. Try giving them more calcium. If that's the issue it should resolve within a day or 2.

What can I give for calcium? oyster shells, and crushed egg shells?

Off topic (aren't I always?)

Where can I find an inexpensive working sewing machine that will fit in a cabinet? Craigslist seems to be mostly takes and overpriced stuff. Not looking for much, an old heavy duty zig zag, no fancy stitches needed, instruction manual and maybe a few of the get would be nice. I want something I can use on heavy stuff like cotton duck and canvas.

Yes, I can do basic sewing, my mother taught 4h years ago and I learned by osmosis, besides, it's kinda like using a jigsaw, lol.

Beautiful roo! Why are you getting rid of him? I am interested in a rooster, where are you located? I'm in Carlisle (Cumberland County)
I am only getting rid of him because I have a younger one coming along that has a pea comb and slightly better type for my breeding purposes. If he had a pea comb he wouldn't be leaving the farm. I am in Denver, PA. 17517

Darn, too far away! I'll have to keep looking. What breed is he? I'm really looking for a young rooster. Two of my girls are 18 wks old and the other 10 are 13 wks old.
