I'm in love with your yard / garden set up! I'm not a good gardener, unless it is a rock garden that is!
Some year I will do more than the basics but I trade off garden work for fishing in the summer and I'm not going to give up the walleye fishing any

wish i could catch walleye, i just plain don't know how to fish for them and believe me i've tried, i learned to fish at daddys knee, and can catch pretty good, everything but these northern walleyes, we don't have them down south.

Sharron,
I believe you are the one asking about bone broth, this is how I do it but I have heard of so many different ways.( my grandmother kept a pan of it on he wood stove all winter long and just kept adding to it).
For every pound of bones I add 3 quart of water
Try to get a variety of bones ( marrow bones, knuckles)
Roast at about 350 for an hour or till brown, put in pan with the water, I bing to a boil then turn down to a simmer, add a capful or 2 of ACV. Let simmer on stove or crockpot on low for 24 hours or more, then add veggies, I do a couple of carrots and onions( we do not like celery)I also add some crushed garlic if I have it..I simmer this for another 48 hours or till I have time to deal with it.
Let cool till I can remove the fat then I freeze in ice cube trays and pop them out into a freezer bag. 8 cubes are a cup.

I vary this by what I have on hand, my mother would start this one weekend and finish it the next.

Yes folks, I grew up in those backwoods where chicken soup was considered medicine and tree branches were used for all kinds of things even leg splints.

Almost forgot to say strain the veggies and bones out while it is cooling,
I also take the marrow out of the bones as it is cooking, just because I like it ( it's an acquired taste )
thanks wingstone, this is what i was looking for, how do you take the marrow out? l know i like chicken bone marrow, so should like beef too.

Sharron this might help, it is a simple, straight forward video.
As far as the marrow, I only take it out of the small round marrow bones with a fork, I do not open up the bigger bones.

Thanks..always a work in progress..haha,
on the fishing..now you sound like my husband! When we lived in Lanc. co., there where many evening fishing trips on the river...even when you wouldn't think fish would be moving..hahaha, cold!! Summer would be great for walking right out to the middle...the sky is sooo big standing there....We really enjoyed the walleye fishing!
Now, up here in the mountains, it's small stream trout..natives are great eating though!
Not too much happening on the river this far up..unfortunately..sometimes you can hit some bass/bluegill...I really believe they are letting this part of the river go so untapped...a little maintence and a bit of stocking, this would be an awesome revenue maker for the state! Couldn't ask for much better scenery too!

I live in Lewisburg Pa. Does anyone around there have ducklings or goslings for sale?
Hello & welcome

....lots of duck lovers here....
Hubby pressure cans it, I believe 20 minutes on 11 pounds. If we don't have the time/enough to can we freeze the stock until we are ready for it.
I just received an old pressure canner from a friend..it should work just fine..i just need to get more comfortable with it..do a few "dry-runs"..

again, thanks, that looks so easy, i've tried to make bone broth before but for some reason, mine doesn't come out looking like his in the video, now off to the garden to get some carrots and onions, not to mention its time to pick kentucky wonders again

Good afternoon all:

Below is a pic of the latest on duel broodies...according to my math (always suspect), tomorrow I should start to see something going on.....though a couple of the eggs have been kicked out of the box and I lost track of eggs with one of the marans laying in broody nest box....

That is cool! Hopefully they will be well rewarded for their efforts....

I am a couple of weeks behind. Allergies were acting up and getting ready for back to school. Welcome to all the new peoples.

I made dinner tonight with everything I grew with my own two hands. It was delicious! Green zuchinni, tomatoes, crooked neck squash and turkey. I don't now how I got crooked neck squash because I only planted green and yellow zuchinni seeds. It was good!

My hubby pointed out that my little silkie I hatched from my silkies has 12 toes!!!! Wowzers.

Hope everyone is making out ok in this hot and humid weather. I think I am ready for Autumn now! Never thought I would say that lol.
