Lmp, my grand babies are adorable.
My heating oil arrived this morning. It usually gets here at eight. I figured this early in the season (which they said starts in October) it would be later. No such luck. They were here at seven, and the guy asked if I had been in bed. If he hadn't gone right on talking, I would have done "here's your sign". He was complaining about the name of the town. Behind my house is one town, about a mile down another... It was not an argument I wanted to have, but he apparently thought I named the towns, and placed my house wrong.
In any event, I now have oil. Woo hoo!

I love it when the oil is all filled up. Then you can just sit back, relax, and not worry about it anymore lol

Yes, it is definitely a good feeling!

Ugh..don't remind me. We have to start buying coal soon and filling up the bin. Last year I think we went through four tons before spring finally came. We're huddled under the blankets and trying to hold off on turning the stove on til October...burrrr it's a little chilly in here lol

I'm glad you got it already...now you'll be nice and toasty on the cold mornings! it is time for us to finish our wood and coal also. I will probably clean the chimney this week so I'm ready to fire up the pot bellied stove.

we need to get up there and clean our chimney too so we can start using the fireplace. Our oil is all filled up but we refuse to turn it on until October lol. I REALLY can't wait until we get an insert for the fireplace someday. I think that would dramatically cut back on how much oil we use over the winter. They're just SO expensive!

Wait, what?... You clean chimneys? Is there anything you can't do? If the zombies ever do come, I'm hunkering down with you!

Yep... clean chimneys, have put on roofs (shingled roofs, never done a metal one), have dug foundations and poured cement, laid more block than I care to remember and have built additions from foundation to framing to plumbing to roof. Only thing I don't do is in depth electrical... I can add a light fixture or switch and can wire an outlet, but I don't mess with breaker boxes.
I grew up helping my Dad build the house I grew up in... was mixing batches of cement in a wheelbarrow and 'buttering bricks' for him by the time I was 8... learned how to read his plans shortly after so I could keep ahead of him... and never stopped. I was the 'gopher' on any project going on in the area, which meant I had to 'go for this' or 'go for that' but even as a gopher it allowed me to learn more and more until I was able to move up and do things myself. My Step Father is also an awesome carpenter and teacher and I have worked with him on countless projects over the years and can not begin to tell you how much I have learned from him! I wish I had a quarter of his building knowledge! For the past 25 years or so I have always requested tools for birthdays and Christmas and now have enough to allow me to basically build anything I want without having to borrow or rent. Just an FYI... a Framing Nailer is the best tool ever invented!! (although my chain saw is probably a strong contender for that spot also!!) LOL

And you have guns too, right? If the world ends, we're all coming to your place. If it helps, I can do deep electrical (install new breakers in the panel) - though there may not be much call for that if a solar storm wipes out the electrical grid.

LOL.... everyone can just come to our place... we will build a stockade fence around and hunker down for the long haul! We can build a windmill for electrical since we would need it for well water anyway! We just need folks to bring goats, turkeys, pigs and a miniature cow or two and we will be set!

oh... someone needs to bring heritage/non GMO seeds also, so we can plant a reproducable crop garden!

LMP, I haven't been by there recently. I did hit Walmart on Monday but went via 220 rather than 150. Saturday was spent up in Potter County at Cherry Springs Park for the Milky Way thing they had. Went with my sister and her teen girl. Wow, what a sight. No light pollution. Beautiful sky.

I am getting about 4 eggs a day now. Dunno what to do with them all! Have a quiche in the freezer already. 2 doz eggs in the refrigerator. And I am learning to can. Our pear and apple trees produced a lot this summer.
I went to feed & clean this-morning...wowsers, feathers everywhere...looked like someone exploded!

...hahaha....I guess the molt has begun...geesh...only getting 3 eggs from 5 chickens now as it is....i don't want those numbers depleting....
Ginger and Cordon are "acting" as duel mothers for the 9 weeks old chicks, but...they aren't really doing too much in the way of protecting or feeding and such...so, still waiting for them to get their egg-system going again

.....
As to "what to do" with the extra eggs..you can freeze them. Get yourself some old icecube trays..crack eggs into them, freeze..once frozen, pop out and place into storage bags...there you go!

.....and there is also what Blarney said..pickled eggs!!

**We had taken a trip to Canada years ago...it was the biggest, clearest sky I have ever witnessed....awesome night..sooo many stars....
DS decided to 'help' this morning by doing chores before he got on the bus....so he opens al the brooders and then steps inside to say 'hey Mom, I can hear an owl!' Yes, indeed, you can hear the Great Horned Owls in the woods just above our coops, still dark out and my youngest birds all out. Arrrrgh! I'm taking this as a sign to stop, have coffee out back with my babies and watch the sun rise.
been hearing the owls here too.....can tell the cooler weather is coming, well..is here!
Hope you enjoyed your coffee and quiet time
