also its important to know that quail and chickens cannot be housed together..............there is some type of illness that the quail can give the chickens..............

I thought about doing this...........

just gotta keep them in separate areas...................

they are fast to mature and lay alot of eggs..............

I have a pair of bobs. Just wondering what the specifics were on the others. I'm very close to wing location wise, have some space, etc.
Just figuring what I can throw together and how soon to get something going. If I don't have to find the time to process, it's a plus.

As for water and freezing. I use warm water in black river bowls and fill once a day.

I now that's not what the experts say, but it works for me. The sun helps warm it a little and it is amazing how they can keep a hole in it and get to water when they have to. I use old cat litter jugs to carry the water out, dump the bowl to knock out the ice and refill.

You know my opinion on " what the experts say".
Equal eggs are gonna get hard o find locally and they do not ship well..keep in mind that they are like poults n the brooder, very delicate for the first couple days, after that they take off,,, they are easily spooked and do jump straight up, you gotta keep that n mind, they will break their own necks when young, I do not have a problem after they get older, but may be that I spend way to much time with them...
I also try to stay with easily sexed colors, I am partial to the cinnamon, but you gotta take a little more time to look them over to sex them.

There's a guy in Manheim that hatches by the hundreds for dog training and sport clubs.. he is also having trouble hatching,.

My birds must strongly disagree with the weatherman.
Just got a call from a frantic husband, there's a bird walking around with 10 little one's following her, apparently somebody has been missing for awhile..
I do know of a bird sitting but she is still there and only has 3 eggs because I took the rest from her..
Silly birds, chicks are for spring...

If you have ever been to my place, you would understand how things like this happens.

My dad has been having trouble hatching his quail too. He went and bought a bunch of new quails and it going to try again. He had been doing really well hatching a couple dozen every couple weeks but it's been months.

it amazes me watching the new little ones out there when is so freezing cold. I remember in the spring, being so concerned with having my brooder warm enough lol.

All of the quail breeders that I know are having trouble with hatches..they are all scratching their head's trying to figure out why.

I have a question again and it's always easier and faster to all you all. Midnight's babies are all doing great. I was concerned when I went out today some she was across the cage from where she was before since she still has one egg that hasn't hatched yet but she rolled it across the crate to keep it under her. My question is, when should I start worrying about that last egg that hasn't hatched yet? 2 of her babies hatched day 20, and one on day 21. Today was day 22. Still no pips or peeping though I could still hear scratching. Should I get the incubator warmed up? Should I poke a small hole where the air sack is to check on it? Of course it's a dark egg so I can't see when I try to candle.

She sounds like a good broody, rolling the egg along with her. I like to have an incubator ready when my broody's are hatching. When the hatch is staggered by more than a day, sometimes the broody will take the chicks into the run and leave the un hatched eggs behind with no warmth. I just snatch up the eggs, keep them warm in the incubator for the day, and slip back under Momma at night.
