She sounds like a good broody, rolling the egg along with her. I like to have an incubator ready when my broody's are hatching. When the hatch is staggered by more than a day, sometimes the broody will take the chicks into the run and leave the un hatched eggs behind with no warmth. I just snatch up the eggs, keep them warm in the incubator for the day, and slip back under Momma at night.

she's doing very well for a first timer :) I was very concerned the first day her babies started hatching as one popped out beside her, still damp and didn't get back under her and she didn't seem to try and you know how cold it was the other day! I managed to find that one in time to bring it back with the heat lamp then put it back under her. I think I'll get the incubator warmed up first thing tomorrow morning if I still don't see any pips. Even if it's just on standby. Thank you!

I have a question again and it's always easier and faster to all you all. Midnight's babies are all doing great. I was concerned when I went out today some she was across the cage from where she was before since she still has one egg that hasn't hatched yet but she rolled it across the crate to keep it under her. My question is, when should I start worrying about that last egg that hasn't hatched yet? 2 of her babies hatched day 20, and one on day 21. Today was day 22. Still no pips or peeping though I could still hear scratching. Should I get the incubator warmed up? Should I poke a small hole where the air sack is to check on it? Of course it's a dark egg so I can't see when I try to candle.

Auro:

My first incubator hatch, I had one go 24 days...with the other hatches, I forgot and left it running ...then another pip...imho, as long as she is moving the egg around, she thinks/knows its viable...my two cents...

Hi and welcome from the Poconos!

This morning when I put food in with them, she jumped off the egg and started mothering her babies and trying to teach them to eat and drink. That's the first time she's left the egg and lost obsession with it so I took it and put it in the incubator. Hopefully it still has a chance. I need a new name though. A cold name won't work for this one since it didn't hatch on that super cold day like the others. Of course this is all "if" it hatches. I need a name revolving around being late or delayed lol

My birds must strongly disagree with the weatherman.
Just got a call from a frantic husband, there's a bird walking around with 10 little one's following her, apparently somebody has been missing for awhile..
I do know of a bird sitting but she is still there and only has 3 eggs because I took the rest from her..
Silly birds, chicks are for spring...

If you have ever been to my place, you would understand how things like this happens.

That's awesome! It's amazing what those birds can do. Wing, is there any chance I could have a few extra fertile eggs when I pick up chickens in December, If my girl is still broody? If you have any to spare, and of course I would pay your for them. I don't care what kind they would be, but I wouldn't be babying them, I would just throw them under my broody and hope for the best. Sorry if that sound stupid or cruel. I'd like to break her, but not with torture in this cold.

My little silkie I got this spring squatted for me today. That means she is a she right?

That's an excellent sign! If you get an egg in a few weeks, we'll know for sure. :p

Hope the little one makes it! How about Tardy for a name?

Anne, I can always do eggs, and of course C C is just around the corner with his Swedish flower
Can not answer your question yet on turkey, even though they are all sold, I always have a few o show, anything left would be small , more like 6 pound chicken size, not sure if I want to process all this weekend or let a couple grow for a few more weeks, some are not picking up till they get chicken
Speaking of chicken, this batch seems to be growing a lot better than the last, for some season the last batch just did not grow like a normal Cornish. This batch still has 3 weeks to grow and are about the size the last finished at.

You did get these from a different place. Maybe that is the difference.

That'd be great. I'm truly grateful for anything. I'm totally okay with a small turkey if you want to clear them out. Glad to hear the chickens are getting nice and fat! Is this group Cornish?
