Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

I mentioned this in the broody thread but I am going to re-ask it here. Do any of guys with broody ever see them have a little "freak out" session when they get off the nest occasionally? Some one else described it as a "Broody Tornado". The chicken runs-flaps it's wings-flies across the area while sqwauking loudly. It only lasts about 5 seconds. Strange chicken behavior!

Yes. The first few times Penelope did it she scared me. She would sound like she was being attacked and would run and scream and flail and then be fine.

Edit: I've read that the egg song is a means of distraction from a potential embryo (ie next generation) so I wonder if this broodt tornado is an extreme show because it's a high priority? The broody is trying to create a distraction from her clutch of embryos.

Anyone else wake up to 1.5 ft of snow and a half inch of ice on top of that? It was insane the car had ice ALL over. It took like 20 minutes to take the ice off the windows!

wow! Be careful out there! We only have about 1.5 inches out there right now. I've actually been dying for some snow this year but it's been evading us so far lol.

It does sound like they're being attacked! That's what I thought it was the first time. That's an interesting theory.

Wow! Nope, not here. I love snow but I want the heavy stuff to wait until after I get a roof on my run, which has been postponed due to a kitchen remodel. :D

Met someone today who picked out his chicken flock by color of eggs, same way I did. Now I need the dark dark dark ones. Enable me? In the spring, maybe. One maran and maybe one more blue egg layer. Or an olive. whimper.

Gotta vent for a second lol. I love Christmas, the joy, love, hope, and beauty of the season but I'm feeling so overwhelmed this season! I managed today to pull all the kids' stuff out of the gun safe today which I had neatly puzzle pieced inside of to the point where there was not a single spot for more in it and laid it all out. We thought that our shopping this morning finished off everything. Then we realized that one kid has more than the other and we forgot our nephews. So now there's more we have to get. Next week is the last week of school for the kids for the year so I have to get everything wrapped, while finishing shopping, while keeping everything hidden (once it's wrapped, there's no way is getting back in the gun safe). On top of that, the order I placed on amazon today for an art table for my daughter was accidentally put in for the wrong color so it had to be canceled and reordered. Now, both kids were selected to supply something for their classroom Christmas parties next week. Brendon wants to bring candy cane sleighs which means I have to glue together 22 of these things (they're really cute though) and get them to the school without breaking them. Katelyn is easy, she needs to bring paper plates and napkins BUT they're celebrating her birthday in school the day before the party since her birthday lies over Christmas break so I need to get cupcakes ordered to take in on that day and birthday party invitations filled out and sent to school. A breather would be nice lol. We still need to find Brendon a Christmas present to take to school for a gift swap and now Katelyn says she's supposed to bring in something to fill everyone's stockings in class this week. Both kids need gifts to swap for their bible school Christmas party next weekend. Then we have crazy Christmas with drives to Dubois on Christmas eve and then to Altoona Christmas day! GAAAAAAA!!! Two days after Christmas, YAY! A birthday party to get together. All the while, hubby will be working double shifts next week so he'll be sleeping whenever he's home so it's all me. I love Christmas, but I'm about ready for it to be over lol. Sorry about the rant. I feel a little better now lol.

Wow! With a schedule like that I would be doing more than just venting!

We should have Matans and OEs in the spring. :thumbsup

Our first group of chicks to reestablish our flocks are due to hatch on Monday. I locked down this morning, 5 are developed. I just love BLRW chicks, they are especially adorable in my mind.
