Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

You guys might also want to use a self-blue (Lavender) colored bird to this. Blues and splashes carry pattern genes (lacing) that will conflict with the penciling. You won't know for sure until you would breed the F1's together to see what would happen, IMO. By rights you should start to see penciled birds. The F2 generation is where the fun starts. You will have to breed a ton of birds, and you will get only a couple of what you want. You should keep a son, and breed it back to the mom........................... So many possibilities :- )

RoPo has my two new sikie hens in her hands and is bringing them back from Ohio today. My new roo comes next Sunday. That will complete my quad for starting my calico pen. I am super excited!!

Sally is taking Tink (splash silkie hen) which means I have one more splash hen available.
YAYYYAYYAYYA I sooooo am gonna fall for TINK!!
A good book to get on genetics would be the chicken color genetics book I mentione previously. When I did reserach I found out the book was written by a fellow named Jerry who introduced the US to the serama breed. But the book is. . . . .like $100 if I remember correctly, so I am waiting around until my bday and use that $ on gettting myself a copy of that book. (now, not to mention I want a whole flock of seramas to add to my collection after the research)

To check out that genetics of colour book again, here is the site. It downloads and you can only view the download once and then it disapears.

That is the EXACT book I want!! here is a look inside of it

It's ok. Always have more eggs.

I will have to honestly say, I have no idea. I know about black, blue, and splash genetics pretty well, and lacing. Other then that, its all an educated guess. I, like you have done research. A lot of times I come up empty handed or with more questions. I often fight with the chicken calculator. As for most of the why's we have, I am guessing its dominance, or the amount of copies needed???????????

Ok, question, HOW does lacing conflict with penciling? And what if you throw in columbian restrictions? I recently did a cross of a Partride with a light columbian hen (brahmas) and as expected, the offspring were sex linked. Doing so much research only got me a litttle more info. The chicken calculator was the most helpful but didnt explain the whys.
See the new color I am working on, accoring to the chicken calculator this color for the roos is a yellow transverse penciling and the hens are called golden transverse penciling, of course with both having the columbian restrictions of lacing at the neck, tail, and wing tips.

Soo bummed, my fav black hen looks like she has ruined her eye beyond repair!! She was stung by a yellow jacket and I was treating it cause it was bothering her and itching her. Well yesterday I was gone all day and didn't see them til they were roosting so I just left her go for the night. Well checked on her this am and her eye is yellow and dead!! Ahhhh y does stuff always happen to your fav bird!! Well now she is inside with her one sister hoping I can help relieve some discomfort and let her get adjusted to just having one eye!! Been feeling like I get ahead of everything them something stupid like this happens :o(

So sorry.

I always say if it isn't one thing, it is 22 others!

So Sally inspired me to start nagging hubby :)

He spent most of the day insulating the houses they are currently in. Then he started working on the new coops. This is the back wall.

It will be divided and will house the calico silkie project and the bantam BL polish. He is going to build a second just like it for the brahma and the orpingtons. I am so excited that they are getting proper housing!!

My two new silkie girls were lovingly delivered this evening by RoPo. They are just too cute!! But, I have got to STOP buying birds!!! I do however still need a bantam buff brahma roo....

How was your weekend?

my weekend was cold and a little hectic !!! but from the looks of things them cutting the power did not kill my babies .. trying to get the other incu adjusted so i can start tommorow with the new hatches
