sorry to hear that.... hopefully the new hatch will give you some good birds with fewer problems.

Too many males in the coop, got to get rid of 2 or 3 asap or they are heading to freezer camp. Just under a year old, slate blue turkeys, $30.
Hubby asked me to edit this to say we would consider trades of any of the following that we are planning on adding to our flock:

chickens: wyandottes, ameraucanas, minorcas, or cubalayas
ducks: Cayuga blacks or indian runners
You want some Cubalaya? I didn't know there was anyone on this thread that was really, actually interested in Cubalaya! I still have too many of them, but most of the ones I still need to get rid of are not show quality. If you are interested you could pm me., with color preferences. I am phasing out of the bbredwheaten color so I don't have any of those to get rid of anymore. These
are available.

possibly a few others.

About a month ago I picked up an EE and a Black Star to go with my RIR's and a couple of mixed breed hens. My rooster is a pretty good size guy and he seems fixated on the EE and she wants nothing to do with him. I've noticed that a couple of the RIR seem to feel the same way. They are staying in the rafters where he cannot get a hold of them, when they come down for treats he stalks them like a child molester at a kids playground. So today I booted him out of the coup for the day to give the girls some peace and quiet. I saw several of them head for the boxes to lay their eggs. Is it possible that a rooster can deter egg production? or am I seeing something that is really not a problem?
An aggressive cockerel will certainly affect egg production.

Such a shame... I love the look she had! Beautiful color and you have to just smile when you see her little fluff of feathers cap!
She looks like my ccl/polish mixes. Even has the mohawk. Hope you have some of her eggs in & get babies that look like her.

Quote: Thanks Silkie, I have frozen cow's milk right in the plastic jug before, just was not sure if goat milk would be the same or if the glass jars would make a difference.....goat ilk is not easy to get around here so I need to keep some for later.well unless you want to pay a fortune.

Today's chicken news....found a stash where 3 of my girls were laying....two blue and three brown eggs...

also, herd the roos call general quarters while I was getting a shower....when I opened the window to take a look, there was the biggest red tailed hawk sitting in a tree 20yds from the bush that the crew were hiding under....this is the first of the red tails I've seen this year....

I also saw either an enormous hawk or an eagle earlier fly over my driveway. Scary thing is, today is the first day in a while that I left the run door open to let everyone out. One of my silkies had gotten herself trapped in the driveway (still has big snow walls from plowing). I just caught her and moved her back to the coop maybe an hour before. Thankfully, it passed on by without a second glance and my flock is loving being able to get out a bit. Even if they only come out for a few minutes at a time. The snow is still there and they don't like it!
