look who made the transition into the main coop last night with all the big girls and boys! I moved 11 over. All the girls, Rosco, and a few of the most promising marans boys (I'd rather get them introduced young, then pull out whoever doesn't stay). They're getting picked on a little bit this morning but not too bad. They seem to be sticking together pretty good.

well another fox attack this morning....herd a noise and saw him chasing the chooks....I opened the window and yelled....he ran off....when I did a head count looks like he got one of my BCMs....will need to get some traps I guess....

If you get any with traps please tell me how, we have never been able to catch fox with anything other than kill traps, and they are hard for us to use with cats and chickens.

Sorry to hear that Stake, do you lock your flock up at night? How many do you have now?

My Oddball is doing well after her Hawk attack. She isn't sleeping up on the roost, but she is still laying. Wing, she is actually a decent egg layer. I was surprised!

Yep:

Unfortunately this fox getting better with practice....I am down to 10 though I am going into lockdown tomorrow.....

I do not lock my chooks up at night...I have thought about keeping them penned, but then the fox who can easily jump my fence would just jump into the pen and probably cause more damage....

the missing BCM has returned, just lost some feathers no other marks

You need a secure coop you can lock them in at night.

Nice! that box of eggs turned out pretty good. Let me know when you start getting eggs from them.
You have a very diverse flock there, lots of colorful birds and eggs.

I was thinking that too. Every time I lose to a predator, I get all crazy making sure that can never happen again. It takes me extra time to build a coop or run, but when I'm finished, it's a fort that no predator can ever penetrate. My stock is far too valuable to let them become food.

I'm in the middle of making an old, falling apart, shed into Ft. Knox at my new place before I take the birds there. The turkeys & peas are too valuable to lose & I have woods on 3 sides & a cow pasture with a creek across the road. Who knows what kind of predators are lurking.

Thank you :) I promise I'll let you know when they start laying. I still have a lot of my original girls that I had first bought. I didn't know what breeds I really wanted until recently but I did know that I wanted a lot of different colored eggs. I got that lol. I love having a variety running around out there :)
