Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

fisherlady, forgot to ask, would you like me to call the friend and try to get you some?

oh, trust me that I don't need anymore!! LOL. I have 26 barnyard mix teens I need to sell (or separate to a bachelor grow out pen for canning later next month) and I have 4 broody hens setting on a total of 3.5 dozen eggs, mostly silver pencil rock and light sussex.... I will be over run with little ones soon enough without buying more! The lady in the chick section was trying her darndest to get me to take some home today. I. should have taken a few dozen and brought them home and put them on Pennswoods for $2 or $3 each!
I'm in Lancaster county. My TS_ finally got a good selection, too late for me though: Pullets:Buff Orphington, Barred Rock, Black Astralorpe; St Run: SLW, Welsummer, RIR, and besides some different ducks, St Run something unidentified by the hatchery with yellow vs reddish chicks.
I know our TSC has been getting them regularly, but the bins are staying full a lot longer now.

Good evening all:

What a great day!...7 of 8 girls laid today....Both of the boys were sparing a bit over a girl....she was junior's girl but switched allegiance...I think with the losses from predators there's not enough girls to keep both boys happy...in a few more weeks, that will get taken care of....

and, I think I have a lead on some Dorkings....(they are really hard to find!)....

Silkie, last fall we talked about my bantam Wyandottes. You were interested in some eggs. Are you still?

Fisher my rocks are laying if you stillwant some whenever the chicken express runs through.

If you are meaning White Rocks then sign me up! My other source (who I talked to last night) says his are on strike last night and the secondary source he recommended told me today that theirs aren't laying right now either! And one of mine is broody with the second one making broody noises herself, so no eggs there.

Raising roosters paid off
10 LF
3 bantam
4 of the LF and 2 of he bantam were mine all the rest came from others last fall .

Grand total is 9 quarts of whole bone in legs and thighs and 10 pints of chunked up meat..
Would of been much better if the predators would not of gotten some

My Craigslist picks up some things well outside of my driving area because of my settings... Check out this poor fella from Wellington Ohio. Any over-the-border Ohio friends care to do some rescuing? Same person has 5 or 6 feather pecked birds listed. Hard winter at their coop, I guess.

Your brahma/marans eggs are darker than my pure marans eggs. I have no dout your eggs are quite dark...and gorgeous.

lol I'm glad you like them! I hope you get a good hatch with them :)

And I hope the turkeys do well for you. Not sure what colors may hatch this year with the mixed flock.

I just got a cabinet bator that is only half full. What would you like to swap for them?

I'm in Ohio, but I sure as heck don't need more roos. If the polish had some hens I might be interested in them, but not the roo alone.

So I washed two of my girls butts' today because I saw there was some nasty poo stacking up back there. Then I find my one girl has lice. Yick :sick

Are there any natural treatments? I think I may try tea tree oil diluted in olive oil. And maybe some DE in the coops. I'll have to check the rest of the girls tomorrow to see if any of them have a build up. Only my one hen had them today after inspection. I wonder if it had something to do with such a long stinky winter and nowhere to dust bathe much.

The mites really don't like the tea tree oil. When we had them, we had a tiny bit of tea tree oil and put it in with water and in a spray bottle. They were crawling on our arms and we sprayed our arm and they died. Used it to spray all the nooks and crannies in our coop. The chickens didn't like the smell of the tea tree oil.

Good luck on getting rid of the lice. I don't know if lice will die with the tea tree oil.

Sorry this is late, but my girls had it over the winter, and I just dusted weekly with sevin dust. Then I put a container filled with that coarse (is it called conractor's sand?) sand, wood ash, and sevin dust in the coop for them to dust bath in and now they're fine. :)

just my two cents :)
