[@=/u/249441/dheltzel]@dheltzel[/@] If my girl is truly going broody, can I buy a few eggs? I can return the chicks, if you like. I'll be returning some anyways! Haha.

Sure, I can always spare some eggs. Let her sit on some golf balls or wooden eggs for a few days to see if she's committed. I find that just putting them into a different coop breaks all my broodies (except for the cochin bantams and silkies).

I think all the large fowl hens we have just don't have the genetic disposition to commit to much. I found 4 broodies in the 4 nest boxes in the main layer pen today. I moved them all to the bachelor rooster coop that has nest boxes to see if any of them really want to sit on eggs, I bet none of them will be in the nest boxes next time I check. Silly hens - think they are tricking me into giving them eggs to hatch when they are not "all in".

Would you be interested in swapping for a few turkey eggs? I have CC & Blarney waiting for a few each at the moment, then can send you some. My slates need another week or so in the new pen to make sure they are pure anyway...so 2 weeks or so before I could send to you. The girls are giving an average of 3-4 eggs per day from 6 hens right now so should pick up more in the next 2 weeks too.

I have finally isolated all of my green & blue layers & have my blue copper marans covering them & my lone black copper marans hen. The silkie roo has the bantam girls & 2 smallest large fowl girls. My red barred legbar cross roo & blue barred ee roo are covering all the girls who lay medium brown eggs to hopefully make more ee girls laying blue & green eggs. I have 3 roos headed for the sale:a white hatchery silkie, a white gamecock mix & a blue copper gamecock mix. None of these boys play well with others so need a flock of their own. If they don't sell, I'll be inviting them to diner.

Hi from the Poconos!

Certain breeds are still selling really well, the past few weeks I have sold all the Ameraucanas I can hatch before they are dry, but I have a lot of extra BCM's and Olive Eggers. I'm not too concerned because it's warm enough they can go outside fairly young and both of those sex out quickly (compared to Ams with their pea combs). I really won't mind raising a few dozen extra pullets, if I can't sell them all, I would like to free range a bunch of them. I never need to "fire sale" them away like TSC does because I can raise and release them, and make more money (in the long run) than selling them for $1.

Last year, my most desperate customers contacted me right after "chick days" was over. They did the "right thing" and got their coop built first, but then when they went to TSC for chicks, there were none to be had. Anyone know when "chick days" ends this year? I should be prepared for that.

It's over already.

What is everyone doing with all the chicks being hatched, are they really selling, I would think that the market is flooded right now.
