How did she wash the feathers? I'm really intrigued by this idea!

if i remember correctly(remember i'm getting old and forgetful lol) she would take them and put them into a pillowcase and wash them outside in a big pot of water that she had built a fire under, thats how she washed clothes when i was growing up, until they could afford to buy a washer, this was in the early 50's, you're to young to remember but back then they all had big castiron pots that they used for butchering hogs , to heat the water to scald the skin so they could scrape the hides, or at least my momma did, other times she heated water and washed the clothes, stirred the clothes with a stick, then put them into a pot of cold water, and had to wringe them out by hand, then hung them on the clothes lines:/

Sounds like you could probably just toss the freshly made pillow in the washer on hot for 2-3 cycles & then tumble dry on low heat.

My 3 new turkey poults :)

My 2, one week old poults are so affectionate! Both will try to jump out of the brooder when I talk to them to try to get to me and the one will run over the second I put my hand in, cuddle up in my hand and go to sleep lol

Those look familiar...lol

learn how to fluff chicken butts..

That was funny. Had to laugh, he puts on gloves because of the "chemicals", while his arms are covered in ink that is under his skin.

Niko was on the eggs this morning. Then on fresh laid eggs. Then out having a dirtbath. Now back on the proper eggs. She is fine. I am a nervous wreck.

She'll be fine. The know why they're doing. It's amazing. The last time my girl went broody was in late December. She would get off the nest once a day.... when it was just about freezing outside. Still hatched those chicks!

I'm sure plenty on here have something.
I have a lavender Orpington in Lancaster county if that helps you. Or a partridge Orpington. Or both, lol.
Hi hey thanks for the encouragement! There are alot of roosters around. I wish I could take them all... I dream of a farm, my own or rental...oh wait, reality!
For now I can have one...maybe 2 (chicken math, black out coops, neighbors who work and neighbors who are very chicken friendly)

I love the D'uccle look. I love Vulture hocks, beards and feather legs, they are very sweet and friendly.

Im trying to mix it up a bit, purely for my own pleasure, as well as a good flock protector. Although there is not much predator pressure in the daytime because we are more residential than open fields and woods, and there are people and dogs out and around all day. But they are around. My worry is a random hawk finding my chicken stash.

I am looking for Brahma, Ameraucana, Cochin, Faverolle.... I found some Cochins...a really pretty SF and a bantam. I wonder if the bantam is big enough for the big hens? It looks like it, but not sure, my own inexperience with this.

I also love the blue eggs...

So - I want a guy ready for a new flock in a nice huge fenced backyard, tons grass, bugs, gardens, shade, dustbaths...chicken paradise....

OH MY, I must have some baby quail...a.s.a.p. LOL  I have a problem.

We are here to help........ Enable.

I'm getting 5-8 eggs a day. The batch hatching now is the third set I've put in from my eggs. My birds are around 10 weeks. This is the first batch that had any fertile.

Probably means the 7 in my bator are infertile then. I haven't had a chance to check.
