Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

It must be understood, my house is an old country house, 20x20 foundation, 170 years old, post and beam like a barn. Rough cut local sourced wood. The barn is "newer", not sure of date, but post 1900. When this property was bought by my parents during WWII, it was on a dirt road, falling down, next to a washed out covered bridge ( now buried in that field, no, I don't know where, yes, I have a metal detector and have searched for the spikes.) The current bridge was built by the man who later started Nissley Vineyards. He used the barn as an office during construction and had to fix it to do that. To say things are out of square and rough is an understatement.

I actually know a lot of the history of this place, including its use as a cigar store in the early 1900's.

And I hated history in school. Now I love history as an understanding of people and why and how things are where and what they are.

Glad they are doing well. The 4 marans/brahma chicks I hatched from you are doing great & no casualties in that brooder so I'm assuming they weren't exposed to the sick roos. I'm holding off adding anything else to that brooder just to make sure but I think they are fine.

I'm glad they're doing good. They should be just fine. I don't think they were exposed at all since they were shipped to you before any of this started up but I'm glad you're talking precautions.

Wow, was I quite the sight earlier lol! Our power went out since they're working on the lines not far from our house and of course I have 4 poults in the brooder and 4 eggs starting to hatch in the bator (due tomorrow) so, we fired up the generator but didn't have a lot of gas left. Of course it ran out on us. So, bring that it was 1:30 and the power is always back on before 3, I grabbed my eggs, stuffed them in my bra and grabbed my 4 little poults and cuddled up with them in some blankets lol. The littles took a nap, peeping and egg cracking noises were coming from my bra and here I am doing for the power to come back on lol. Oh the things we do for our poultry! Power is back on now and I'm waiting for my incubator to get back up to temp. hopefully, this worked and I managed to save them all.

ETA: all 4 are still wiggling and moving :)

I think my flock has gone nuts! I have a RSL who had decided to break all the rules and go broody and I think my silkie is planning to go broody. She decided to stop laying in the nest boxes and made herself a nest on the coop floor back in the corner. She's not sitting yet but it looks like she's stocking up. I found 4 eggs there lol. I guess they feel, since they're quarantined for the next couple weeks they need to be brats and find something to entertain themselves lol. On that note, I have not found anymore signs or symptoms of any illness in anymore of the flock. I think we're in the clear :) just to be sure though, the quarantine stands until June 9th (one month).

Glad to know we are probably in the clear. I'll hold off another week before combining that brooder with the older bunch just to make sure. That will put them at about 3 weeks old...pretty standard quarantine time. I usually do 2-4 weeks.

Bwahahaha! We shall not go into the number of times I've had eggs & babies in my bra.

Oh my gosh, I am dying here! A woman from Florida admitted that she sells sick birds at the poultry shows, saying it's payback for all the birds that she got that were sick!

Knowingly? I make no guarantee about my birds health, but I can't imagine intentionally spreading illness.

I actually turned down doing a show/demonstration later this month due to the add departments recommendation because of the ai out west.

I was reading up on MG outbreaks. It's an old thread, and she hasn't posted in about four years. She said she gets them looking healthy, then brings them in.
I wouldn't be surprised if someone did turn her in. It just goes to remind you that you MUST be careful, and quarantine!!! Two weeks might do for some things, but a month is better.
