Chippy: Are those the two from CC? Hope they are doing well!!!......
Yep, the two albinos and they are doing great, improving every day. Gave them a slice of watermelon the other day, and it took them a long time to figure out how to actually eat it. Once they did, they crushed it. I was so proud.

Hello from Berks/Lehigh Counties. I'm from the Hamburg/Allentown area. Nice to meet you all.

Any chance someone nearby raises ducks? Interested in just a few ducklings (Cayuga, Muscovy, etc.). I have some chicks for trade or will just pay. Let me know!

Hello and welcome! If you are looking for birds I am sure someone here can be neighborly and help you find them.

Went out to feed the poults and half of them were missing! Look around and finally found a pile of them inside the feeder. One of those plastic gravity ones from TSC. Never had that happen before!
Wish I had my camera.
That's happened to me a couple times. They fly in and can't figure out how to get out. Try putting a gallon size plant pot over it as a lid.

That is adorable... obviously this little boy and his hen are together a lot! Not often to see a bird that forward about wanting contact.... and the little boy is obviously very careful with his hen....cute to watch, if you go to their link they have a few more of them together.

Has anyone ever had a chick hatch with the umbilical cord wrapped around its leg? My one little poult hatched today, with help. It's umbilical cord was wrapped around its leg. I managed to get it off his leg but part of his yolk is hanging out and there was some yellow fluid coming from the area earlier but not a whole lot. I put some neosporin on and around the yolk but I don't know what else to do for him. His toes look shorter than they should be and even though he's alert, he can't seem to get his legs underneath him. Is there any hope for him? Has anyone else ever dealt with this?

I saw that video before and it cut off just before he pushes that rooster away, if you watch closely, the Ameraucana rooster warns him with a flap, drops his wing and starts doing the shuffle as if he's going to attack. I'm glad to see the longer version and see that the boy easily pushes the roo aside. Pretty cool, he is definitely comfortable with his birds.

I've had some hatch like this, some make it and some don't. I would give the chick a few drops of liquid infant vitamins (no iron) and set it upright in a cup. I hope she makes it.

I get these occasionally. If the yolk is leaking it likely won't make it. I use blu-kote to dry up the umbilical. You have to be very careful how you unwrap the leg so it doesn't pull the yolk sac. It usually takes them several extra hours in the bator to finish absorbing the yolk & get their feet under them. They are very susceptible to herniating the umbilical for the first 2-3 days. If the chicks pile it keeping warm, it won't survive. Make sure there is plenty of heat & plenty of space.

Thanks guys. He actually ended up bleeding heavily from it last night but I caught it in time. I had been reading up and a few people had said to tie it off so that's what I did. The bleeding stopped immediately. I actually left him in the bator overnight and really didn't expect him to make it. This morning, he's still doing ok. I'm giving him save a chick since that's all I have and he perks up and opens his eyes. He seems wreak on one side, like his one leg isn't strong enough to lift him and his neck turns to that side too. I have him in a cup in the brooder now. If he/she pulls through, his/her name will be Will or Willa
