Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

right now I am so ****** off, my Alaskan Husky went thru my fence while I was working in the coup and killed one of my chickens with me yelling my head off and chasing him down. I am so tempted, well you know the feelings--

That's terrible. It's so important to make sure everyone is separated if they have strong predatory instincts. So sorry. :hugs

Exactly :) I think I could emit light if it was dark in here right now

So glad it worked out for you!

:th I have a new layer... And it's GREEN! I am so happy!!! :cd   I actually think all five are laying now. While I still have only gotten three eggs/day, yesterday and today an egg was tan, while before they were all brown. It's a mystery for now, but I am so happy to have a green egg layer! Even if it was an accident. THANK YOU, FISHERLADY AND RADIO MAN!! :highfive:

Awesome! It's so exciting getting the first eggs!

I just got my first two eggs today

Woo hoo!

I want to start raising a few egg laying chickens in my backyard. Trying to find the easiest breeds to keep in my area, want them to be happy and healthy and raise them to be social with me, kids & dog. I love doing research before I start a project and there is so much great info here. I think I'm ready to order my first girls. Have picked out: Buff Orpington, Easter Egger, Golden Buff, Barred Plymouth Rock and Gold Laced Wyandotte. Just worried about ordering them now (they'd arrive week of 8/17). Would they be able to live out in the coop and make it through the winter?

They are all great breeds, but don't limit yourself to just what the hatcheries have. Some of my favorite and most unique birds have been from fiends and fellow chicken keepers who had some "extras". I think they would be able to survive the winter, so long as you had a sufficient coop.

So I came home from work this morning and heard a strange noise couldn't figure out what it was I get out of the car and realized my rooster is crowing for the first time lol they sure grow fast

To add to what Ann suggested, its been my experience that after you get going you will want other breeds too....make sure you have extra room in the coop...

mini sweet peppers are taking over my house. to hot here for the oven... can I go ahead and stuff them but put in freezer instead of baking...will the pepper get to mushy....thinking some with a cream cheese stuffing, some with ground turkey and some with ground beef

Too bad LMP isn't around. She does that, but I can't remember if she freezes raw or not. I think she does.
:-( I miss her! Anyone see her lately?

I've always frozen my stuffed peppers cooked....for my two cents....the peppers get mushy if frozen after cooking ....though maybe its just the microwave....IDK.....

I've always made sure mine are completely dry before & after stuffing.....just no water on them....stuff them...make sure cooled completely and freeze! I either thaw them in fridge or bake frozen...they always come out great!

Heating them first (blanching) stops the activity of some enzymes that can slowly degrade the quality while frozen. Freezing slows all activity, but the blanching process can allow them to keep longer when frozen. If you are planning to eat them within a few months, I doubt there is any difference at all. My mom used to freeze stuff for years (literally) and I can attest to the lower quality in year 7, even with blanching, but it was still edible (and still better than the frozen store bought stuff).

Oh those mini sweets sound yummy. My bells are just now setting fruit. I got a late start. I have gotten a few hot peppers so far. I only have 6 plants but managed to get one meal of bacon wrapped cheese stuffed out of these.
400

you can blanch, chop, & freeze them in serving size bags. I can buy sweet peppers in the grocery store frozen so I would think it is doable at home.
