Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

I started out with about 10 chickens and about 30 chicks this spring, now I'm down to 4 hens and 2 roosters due to raccoon

. I finally got the raccoon situation under control, but only have 2 hens laying now, barely enough for the family.
Anyone willing to sell me a couple young hens or pullets in my area?

That is terrible about your coon problems. Did you terminate the coons or coon-proof your coops?

I wish I had some older pullets to sell. I get almost daily requests from people looking for some older birds and I have nothing available. If you decide you want some chicks, I still have those and I will move you (or any friends from here) to the top of the list to get you whatever you want that I am hatching.

Yeah....prissy girls just rolled the golf ball out of the box and laid their eggs next to it....duh!

At least you found the eggs! :p

I'm always looking for extra cartons. It's going to be a busy weekend, but maybe I can make the trip some evening next week.

I am saving cartons from friends and family for you and your niece. Also, my Aunt said she got her first dark egg yesterday!

Woops... sorry?

I miss his big deep crow... I have all bantam roos so there arent any manly crows around here. But I dont miss how stupid and annoying and mean he was.

What was really funny was having a rooster crowing in the middle of Miracle Mile Shopping Center with all he windows down! Got some strange looks, thank god I didn't see anyone I knew!

That hilarious! Wish I could have seen it!

I'm sorry but it looks like you're about 4 hours away from me :/ there are a lot of people over your way though so maybe someone can help you out.

I got to meet @dheltzel today and he brought me some babies :) I know I said that my last ones would be the last of the year but I couldn't resist. Now have 5 new babies in the brooder again lol. They look so tiny in there!

Can I be nosy and ask where you two met up?. I thought you were at the other end of the state Aurora.

I just candled my eggs tonight. She is still sitting on all 14 eggs!. They all looked fertile too (except for the Marans, who knows!). My eyeballs are tired and I'm no expert at this. You are welcome to take the chicks back after they have separated from the broodies if you'd like to sell them. (I know, I'm not supposed to count them before they hatch...) I will need to find homes for them anyways.

I went to the Grange Fair in Bucks County today. Very neat to see everyone's hard work in the form of produce, livestock and crafts. The backhoe show with the men showing off all of their tricks was awesome too! No chickens sadly, because of AI. They instead had pictures of the winners.

Hello! I have a hen sitting on eggs that are due in a bit over a week. I will need to find homes for the chicks. I am in Bucks County, but I will be going on Vacation the second week of September, and I could transport them closer to you. I can't guarantee pullets or Roos though.

Thank you, I'll send you a PM.

Sorry to be a thread hog, but I got some cool news from my mailman. He said he just delivered (on Friday) 15 chicks to a guy a couple streets over from me! Another rebellious chicken owner. I will have to Introduce myslef!

Thanks for saving cartons for me. Even if we get them returned, eventually they wear out and start to fall apart, but I like the idea that we re-use what most people throw in the trash for at least a half-dozen times.

She is pretty far from where I live, but my Dad grew up around Johnstown and his family has a reunion every August at a fishing cottage in Bedford Co. that is somewhat close to her, today was that day and since I was going to be out there for the reunion, I just brought among some chicks. They were a big hit with my relatives. I knew she needed at least a CCL roo to go with her one pullet, but I hatched enough CCL's to get 2 more females. With 2 more Rhodebar pullets in there too, she now has a quad of both "bars", enough to produce some chicks for sale next spring. So many people have never heard of these breeds, but there is a strong demand for locally raised chicks that are known females. These 2 meet that requirement perfectly.

When you get the chicks ready to go, we'll see if anyone close by wants them, if not, I'm sure I can find someone.

Lol, he beat me to it! It was only about an hour drive for me to meet up (I do live pretty much in the very middle of the state) so it was perfect :) I really appreciate the new babies! I'm going to have some serious hatching fun next spring....time to start planning for a bigger incubator haha!
