Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

@emorems0, thanks for the update. Unfortunately since the chicken train will be on the move on a weekday, I will be at work. It's probably for the best since I'll have something like 85 various peeps showing up over that next week... My dreams of midget whites will have to wait.

The sourdough event sounds awesome! I'm glad your hard work paid off in a fun event, and I've learned from experience that the mishaps make the best stories ;)

Depending on where you are along the route, I may not get there until later in the evening. I need to work out the details with dhetzel on timing, but I'd like to pick up the chicks as close to start my cross-state commute as possible because I won't have supplemental heat for them. I have a 6 hour drive when I don't make any pit stops and it would be some kind of miracle for me to leave before noon, so... I'm usually driving well into the night ;)

@fisherlady, @TillyPeeps, and @MotorcycleChick, thank you all for your thoughts. She was our resident broody girl and will be sorely missed. I will tell my daughter that everyone is thinking of her.

Hi all - I hope I'm not breaking a rule by posting here, but I wanted to pop in and say Hi to my Pennsylvania neighbors! I live in northern Carroll County MD so I do a lot of my shopping in Hanover PA, and I feel like we are roomies lol. :) I am impatiently awaiting the arrival of chicks at Bowmans Feed store to start our little family flock. I have found so much info and advice here on this site, I feel like I struck gold!

Welcome to BYC!
I grew up in western Carroll County and probably drove through your neighborhood way back when. I still visit my dad there sometimes. We used to get feed and garden plants from Bowmans.

What breed of chicks are you looking for?

Today is a hard day for us. My daughter more than anyone. I found little Cookie dead today behind some plywood that was leaning against the turkey coop. Cookie was her baby that she picked out at the feed store two years ago. There was plenty of poop back there so I'm wondering if she was thinking of going broody again. Cookie "the tiny mother hen" will be terribly missed. We buried her in the yard since she was such a special girl. RIP little Cookie

Aurora, I'm so sorry. It's never easy, but especially hard when it's one our children cherish.

Thanks for the welcome! Yay- someone else who knows this area!

I am planning on getting 3 EEs, 1 RIR, 1 Australorp, and 1 Golden Comet. I wanted a variety of chickens to broaden my experience with different types, and I also wanted breeds that were known for being friendly and hardy.
