Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Hi all - I hope I'm not breaking a rule by posting here, but I wanted to pop in and say Hi to my Pennsylvania neighbors! I live in northern Carroll County MD so I do a lot of my shopping in Hanover PA, and I feel like we are roomies lol. I am impatiently awaiting the arrival of chicks at Bowmans Feed store to start our little family flock. I have found so much info and advice here on this site, I feel like I struck gold!

Today is a hard day for us. My daughter more than anyone. I found little Cookie dead today behind some plywood that was leaning against the turkey coop. Cookie was her baby that she picked out at the feed store two years ago. There was plenty of poop back there so I'm wondering if she was thinking of going broody again. Cookie "the tiny mother hen" will be terribly missed. We buried her in the yard since she was such a special girl. RIP little Cookie

Aurora, I'm so sorry to hear that...there's definitely been a few birds over the years that were extremely hard to lose, I understand how she feels

Thank you everyone for your thoughts. Katelyn asked that we bury her so we dug a hole yesterday wherever she picked and buried her. She picked out a nice, big, flat, rock to paint and put over her grave. She'll be working on that today. I'm thinking about finding her either a polish or a silkie chick to raise up and call her own again. Anyone have either?

I could send pics of whatever shows up and she could pick whichever she likes. Of course, I won't know sex at that point. I'm sorry about your loss

One of the bestest things about having broodies in the coop...getting to see the unexpected 'awww' moments, and even better is when DH happens to have his cell with him and gets some snaps to share.

Lucky I have been trying to get one of my hens to go broody for about a week now
