Get colored zip ties at your local hardware or maybe Walmart.
Either pick 4 different colors or 2 colors.
Place one around their leg just above foot and clip off excess with toenail clippers or diagonal pliers.
Endless combinations can be created to differentiate the chicks.
Billy is blue
Rhoda is red
Gilbert is green
Yolanda is yellow....

Or blue left leg is billy, blue right leg is burt
Red left leg is rhoda and red right leg is rhonda....

If you only have 1 color then one can have one on left leg, another can have two on left leg
The others can have either one or two on their right leg.....

Anyway, I 'm sure you can see the options.... the nice thing about zip ties is that they are cheap and can easily be clipped off and replaced as they grow.

Just remember to make a little chart to keep track of who is who so you can track progress, weight, feathering, ect....whatever features are important to you for future breeding purposes.

I read this and all I can think is that I want my next chicken to be named Yolanda! Love that name!

George Foreman named all of his children George .

Sounds like my son, who thinks all the naughty boys' name is George (from George Pig in Peppa Pig). Oh, if he sees "stranger chickens", he always calls them: Gemima, Sarah, Sarah, .... and Sarah (also from Peppa Pig). He can only remember two chicken names, so after the first two, all chickens are Sarah, including roosters.

Hi all! I posted a LONG time ago when we were still in the 'thinking' about chickens phase. We now have three and are happy as can be. BUT...we have a new EE that I was told was a lady but I'm not sure. She/he should be about 3 months now, or so I was told and I don't want our kids to get too attached if it's a roo.

Thanks for looking!

Would need a close up of the back of his neck and his back, under where his wing ends to be sure....but I think it is a rooster.

Pointy feathers in either of those two places I mentioned are classic signs.
