Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

You know? It really stinks when you finally have everything right to sleep through the night, and you still wake up early.
Without the ducklings in my bedroom, I should not have been awake at 4:30. Technically it was 5 o'clock. That's just as bad since I didn't go to sleep until about one.

Does anyone know of a poultry processor in the chester/berks/montgomery co area?
I am looking into pastured poultry (heritage turkeys and roosters) but need an inspected processor to handle things for us, we don't want to do on-farm processing, at least not at first.

Good news: I do have all my chicks. I am not missing one.
Bad news: I had chicks running around outside, but the door wasn't open.
Good news: I found out before they popped out while I was gone.
Bad news: I have to refence my run today. I'm out of staples and fasteners.
:D Oh well. I'll get it done.

By fasteners do you mean zip ties? Cause that's what holds my run together.

Thanks @TillyPeeps . The closest is about an hour away. My sister knows a place "out in Lancaster Co", maybe that's it, or maybe there is a closer one. I wish there was a closer processor. Seems like a great business opportunity for someone willing to do the work.

We take all of ours to someone closer, I don't know if they have any kind of certification though. They do have commercial quality equipment. They don't really have had title (that I know of) so my friend just refers to them as the "deliverance farm" I'll get information for you, I have a couple broilers I need to have done anyways

Hi! Welcome!
They will let you know if they are okay. If they are outside without a lamp, they will cry loudly about being cold. No need to see them. You hear it!
When you finally take the lamp off, you go outside as the sun is setting. Listen to them. Go outside again before bed. As long as they don't see or hear you, it will probably be nice and quiet because they are okay.
I put my last batch of chicks outside at two or three weeks. By five weeks, they were not sleeping anywhere near the heat lamp. I gave them a few more nights to be sure that the cold wasn't too much. I got off easy, because usually like you I had to always worry I was doing it too soon. My ducklings will be going outside this coming week at three weeks old. Chances are, they won't need a lamp for more than a week.

Thank you...I decided to try tonight while they are still on the enclosed porch, plus it is a little warmer. They seemed to settle down sooner and I went out to check on them a few minutes ago and they are snoozing.

This is the first time I had chicks so I guess I worry too much.
