So, I ended up crafting a little sling/hammock for my meat chick with the sore ankles. I had her outside in the sling yesterday since it was nice out and then brought her in for the night since I wouldn't be able to get her under the heating pad in the sling and I didn't want her to get trampled on overnight. Getting ready to take her back outside now. I haven't peaked under the sling yet to see how her joints look, but I think I'm going to let her spend a little time in the warm grass before I put her back in the sling for the afternoon. She still isn't putting weight on her feet, she's just resting in the sling with her feet hanging down slack.

You are giving her great care, hopefully the tlc and a bit of rest will help her legs but unfortunately my experience with the chicks like her have not done well over long term...it is just a fight against their genetics. Keeping her comfortable is wonderful though, it gives her the best chance she could have.

I'm really liking how my new dark cornish is feathering out... looks like she'll be lighter than my other one and I'll be glad to be able to tell them apart!

She did NOT want to stand still for pictures though! Lol

Tried to get some pictures in the brooders too, but the bright sunshine + shade does not make for good pictures.

Meaties in the sun

And shade (there are 4 or 5 in the huddle box back there too)

And the layers (plus a few meaties) in the new pen.

From dheltzel - welsummer on the left, olive egg legbar on the right (2 of them), blue egg black sexlink in the trio of meaties in the back. The smaller birds that you can't see well are SLW, dark cornish, and Delaware.

She's not as 'peppy' today as she was yesterday :-( I was really hoping that giving her legs a rest would help her get back on her feet, but the joints still look pink and bulge-y. I put her sling box in the brooder with the other chicks hoping that would remind her to do chicken things, but she may just be giving up.
