A warning to anyone getting chicks or eggs from @fisherlady, her birds pass on an extreme case of broodiness! Ana is sleeping in the nest box again. Her 3rd time this year! She's not much older than a year old lol

Not one of my girls;)

Didn't you say you were wanting to hatch out a few more? She must have heard your brooder chicks cheeping! :jumpy

I should just see if she wants to raise out these CCL boys for me. They're a few weeks old now though. I'm not sure if they would take to her.

You could try puting her in the brooder in a cooler corner....let her sit and watch and listen to the littles for a while and see how she reacts to them. If she comes out of her nest to mother them then you are golden, if not then you at least gave it a shot.

I don't have room in the brooder to do that right now so I just tom the 5 CCL chicks out and stuffed them under her lol. She didn't complain. I put food and water in the next and blocked off the nest. I'll be checking on them every 20 minutes to make sure that all is going well.

Recap from my previous post... 2nd chick out of about 8 or so with this kind of twisted leg, first chick couldn't walk/stand up at all and died in the first week. Bracing the first one didn't seem to help because the ankles turn in and aren't easily held in place like typical splayed legs.
Does this occurrence indicate poor breeding stock at the hatchery? Think this chicken who has been managing okay for 5 weeks now will be able to live a decent life? Anything we can do at this point?

Well, it was a fail. She had no interest in them. She didn't make any attempts to hurt them or anything but she didn't want to mother them either. She just calmly left the nest and abandoned them. I brought them back in to the brooder.
