Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Haha, nice try.  I haven't even filled my first one yet! ;)

Now, why would you admit that here?

Because I'm accepting donations for my cause!

Just found someone looking to rehome a bantam Cochin on Craigslist, said she has been bullied by bigger hens. I told her I would swap her hen for one of my CCLs. Any downsides besides integrating challenges? I figure she would hang out with my two Silkies.

I fear for the CCL. If they are bullying the cochin, they will certainly bully the CCL.
Integration is tricky. I often have to move birds back to where they came from, messing up my planned breeding pens, because the hens just will not cooperate.

Also, do you have a place to quarantine the cochin? I recommend you have a quarantine area before adding any birds to your flock.

You know your silkies are at least the equal of any cochin for broodiness, right? Put some golf balls in a nest if you want the silkies to try to hatch them for you.

Yep, I can safely quarantine in my detached garage. I didn't think about the CCL getting bullied, but you're right. Maybe this person will take some chicks in three weeks instead...

The silkies don't lay at all, and they are 6-7 years old. The owner said they would probably go broody in the spring. I don't want the Cochins just for their broodyness. I think they are just adorable and so sweet.

We are wanting to add some to the mix this spring...
Ayam Cemani are the number one pick.
Lavender Ameraucanas or lavender orphingtons
Sussex or Orlof
Maybe marans

On another note, we had only one hen laying and now we have about 18 laying. We changed up their food and gave them a little more light and bam there were eggs. Literally over night we went from one to a dozen.

Now what to do with the 12 dozen eggs we have in the fridge!!
Buy an expensive incubator and hatch them,

I mean isn't that what we "should" do? There's no sense in wasting them.
