@dheltzel . Any word on the Sandhill order? I just want to make sure I am prepared.

Mid to late June, so you have plenty of time to prepare. In researching the Brabanters, I can only find 2 sources in the US (that advertise on the internet), Sandhill and Ideal. Ideal likely got theirs from Sandhill, but I prefer Sandhill's approach to breed preservation and expect their stock will be superior. So it will be crucial that we work together to get these more available in this area. From what I've read, they seem like a very good choice for a backyard "pet" chicken.

You also have one of the very few breeding flocks of Midget White turkeys in this area. I know of 3 other breeders, so there is enough genetic diversity to keep them going, but not enough to make them seem common. You should consider selling hatching eggs via CL or FB when they are laying well this spring.

Okay, that's great. That's very good to know about the Brabanters. Glad I got the midget whites when I did! Do you have any left? If my chicken hatches out any females, I am going to euthanize Wheezy and replace her. I hate to do it, but she sick and underweight, and hasn't laid any eggs yet. But I would love to sell hatching eggs or poults in the spring.

I think I have to euthanize the sick banty I picked up last week. Her eyes are still foamy, sinuses puffy, and she is just very lethargic still. She t hint it is kinder to put her out of her misery and start fresh with some chicks in the summer. I think for my sick chickens, I will burn them in our burn barrel once I euthanize them, to prevent any more spread of disease. I will euthanize the little chicken Sunday when it is warmer.

Sorry to hear she hasn't improved ...it sucks but I agree with you...and your disposal plan makes sense to me.
