Not crazy, we have bought heads of lettuce and cabbage when they are on sale , especially in the winter when foraging is so scarce. I haven't ever bought any bagged salads, but if I saw it on sale cheap enough I probably would.

Set 313 eggs tonight, including 233 Legbars! Hatching season starts for real in 3 weeks.

Today's hatch so far is 20 Olive Eggers and 2 Lavender Ameraucanas.

How are the lavender ameraucanas as layers? They look pretty. I have 2 supposed amaraucanas and they maybe lay 2 a week, maybe 3. Haven't laid yet this year. I like blue eggs. Would CCLs be better? Which breed lays more consistantly?
Not that I really have room for more. But maybe it's time for the older girls to go to freezer camp. Maybe this fall, after egg season. Trying to figure out best breeds for my wee flock.

Yep, that's a bit crazy, but I will admit buying fruit and veggies with an eye to giving the leftovers to the chooks....mine are getting some old blueberries today.....

LB:

I also have a hard time managing what chooks will fit my small backyard....I top out a bit under 20 and can only support two breeds per sey...with my limited experience, I think the Americanuas lay a bit bluer egg, but, its tough to argue with an auto sexing CCL...

also, with my limited experience, I've found a big difference in how well a breed lays, based upon how that specific line was bred and not generic breed standards....my two cents....

GM all:
