Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

You guys are making it really hard not to get an incubator!!! Congrats on all the babies! I want some more! On a really good note the lady that took my Muscovy drakes has turkeys and is going to hatch some for me as a trade the next time she incubates! How does it go, order birds then rush and build coop for them? Check! Annnnnd is it 50% chance for frizzled gene with a frizzled roo and smooth hen? I have no idea what any of their parents looked like.

Yup! The fastest built coops are the ones built in a hurry!

Would turkeys and guineas house together if they were halfway raised together? I have some royal purple guineas coming in May. Not sure if I can even raise them together yet but then I only need to build one coop quickly lol.

I kept guineas and turkeys together with no issues. They interact when free ranging. I once saw several guineas gang up on a tom and try to intimidate him. He merely looked annoyed and walked away.

Anyone wanting hardware cloth for coop/pen/cage building, I found a great deal, but it takes 1 - 2 months to get it, so you have to buy it now for building later on.

Thank ya! I ordered, says it will be here on St. Patty's Day...they must know I'm Irish.

Just a pondering question for you all. Do you think broodies are more apt to happen in a low stress environment? I was just thinking about it the other day, and I'm surprised that I have 2 broodies already, from chicks that were hatched out in late summer. Especially surprising is the BSL getting the urge.

It seems as though in nature, females generally tend to only raise young in a safe environment. So it makes sense to me that because I have had peaceful flocks that are able to free range with minimal competition for food, they would be quicker to go broody. Have you guys observed this?

Yeppers....I have too many boys and that keeps things riled up....that is assuming the birds are inclined in the first place.....?

I finally got my welbars seperated. They are NOT happy at the moment but they will be once they realize that all the other boys can't get to them. I can't wait till its nice out again. I have too many boys that need to go to the freezer.

Nickle! I love it!! And Casper too! Although his Badger Markings are short lived, they tend to fade to all white.
. He's already slept with us....

Aww there is nothing wrong with that! A puppy is just like a kid of your own. Let him sleep with you, sit on your couch, slobber all over everything! Just make training strict! No potty in the house, no chewing up stuff, etc. I had a pitbull and she was the sweetest baby ever. Sadly we moved and couldn't keep her but found her a good home and visited her when she had pups. We'll one day have a few dogs running around.... one day...
The turkeys are a lot of fun, but different from chickens for sure. I have a just three, and they sleep with the chickens. They are no trouble at all.

Man, you are selling me on those turkeys! My coop is just sorta small, and a turkey can get pretty big. I have a 4x8 coop for my 7 hens but we have 7 babies in the house that will go out to the coop in the summer. 14 chickens will be a lot for that coop. Maybe I can look into getting a big shed? Ugh stop it, no. !
