The most recent coop we made. We like these smaller ones for Broody Hens, quarantine and introducing juveniles to the outdoors.

Love it!

Hubby left at 9 this morning and I had 6 new chickens by 11 lol. Although two are very small so they only count as one. Two EEs, he said ameraucanas but followed that with they lay green and pink. That means EE right? Going down to take pics now. Noticed one has some feathers missing and a bit of blood after we got her home. She's the one I wanted two weeks ago so I didn't look her over again. I know my hubby is going to laugh when he gets back and will probably think twice before heading somewhere warm without me again!

Wow some of you are setting a LOT of eggs!

What do you do with the chicks? Sell them?

I wanted to ask, do you make money off of your chickens? Enough to break even, more, or less? I'm curious because we are not exactly rich so the chickens do cost us a lot in feed and bedding. I want a lot more someday, so it worries me how much that will cost! Hubby wants to raise beef cows to sell to support us a bit more. I'm not sold on the idea but we'll see.

@yoopergirl1211 I am jealous! I wish we could have more chickens. Did you get them as adult hens or chicks? I'd put some blu-kote on the one that is bleeding. You are around the Erie area right? If you ever wanted to get some adult hens, I know someone in my neighborhood (Harborcreek) who has too many that she can't care for them all. Just saying..... in case your hubby does go somewhere nice without you again!

In my case, I make enough to support the hobby for a while. Hubby thinks I make a lot off them but I just let him keep thinking that. Otherwise, I wouldn't be hatching all the time lol

Is anyone near King of Prussia? I want to convert part of my barn into a coop and need some advice on logistics. Im new to the chicken world, I just got 6 ISA Browns from TSC last Saturday
I work in King of Prussia. You can get lots of feedback if you were to start a new post in the forums under "Raising Backyard Chickens", "Coop and run design". Include some pictures and you will get varied ideas and feedback from the entire community. If you want information specific to this area, then go ahead and ask here.

I sold a lot of chicks last year and hope to do even more this year. Over the entire year, I do a little better than break even so I can give some money back to the farm to do some needed improvements. I don't count my time because it's a hobby and it really helps to keep me in shape. Much better that a gym, 'cause I would skip the gym often, but the chickens need me. Our feed bill is huge, like over $6,000 a year and part of the year is pretty lean revenue-wise. I'm way behind now, but I expect the year's feed bill will be paid before summer is over.

It looks great on her :) Does she seem comfy in it?

Yep! It seemed like it was tight to get it on her, bur I think it is the perfect size. If I ever need one for my Bielefelder, I'll need the plus girls size. She's about twice the size of my Cali Grey. Love my big girl!

That is gorgeous! Does hubby make those for you? Do you have plans to share?

I can't help with breeds, but if the featherless part is on her back, she may have been a favorite of the rooster. If there is no rooster, she should grow back the feathers. A hen saddle can help with that also. Just make sure the other chickens aren't picking on her. Some blu-kote can help with that.
