Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

I got my Ameraucanas from Once in a Blue Moon Farmstead yesterday! They are beautiful! But now I have 58 chicks!!! Holy crap! I lost an EE who was about 8 weeks old by drowning in the duck pool and 2 Sebright chicks this week. It's been a crazy emotional highs and lows. Trying to move chicks around and get everyone settled.

They are beautiful!! But that's a lot of chicks! I thought I might be able to vie for the title of the Pittsburgher with the most chickens (at a modest dozen, currently), but you have me beat by far. I assume with that many you're not in the city limits, though--maybe I still have a shot at the title, especially after the chicken train comes through...

Went to TSC between dropping a kid off for rehearsal and picking them all up for 4-H... They didn't have it, had a spot for it on the shelf, but they were out. The guy said they are really limiting the medicines they are able to sell lately and just dropped a bunch of abx this January. He said the terramycin is one of those things that they only get a few of at a time and they just sell out right away. He checked all of the surrounding stores and they are ALL out. Not sure what to do now. We have a doctor appointment that will take most of the morning tomorrow, maybe I can google on the drive down. I feel so bad for him.

I flushed his eye out with saline but had to use some gauze to wipe away the little crust of puss. He did NOT like that! after the crust was gone though, the saline was able to get into his eyelid and I hope that made a difference. Good news, he chugged a bunch of water all by himself after the saline flush! Still hasn't eaten food, but he drank so much water once he got started that I was worried he would over-saturate.

So, I'm not sure how helpful this is, but you can apparently get Terramycin online with next-day shipping, but it's expensive. This site, for instance, http://www.allivet.com/p-1292-terramycin-ophthalmic-ointment.aspx , has the tube of ointment for $15.99, plus $22 for UPS next day shipping. I checked Amazon, but it looks like the closest thing they have is Vetericyn Plus All Animal Antimicrobial Ophthalmic Gel ( https://www.amazon.com/Vetericyn-Pl...r=1-1&keywords=terramycin+ophthalmic+ointment ). It's antimicrobial but not antibiotic, so probably not what you need. I hope you are able to find him something that helps.

Separately, I just sent you a PM with a question about the chicken train schedule--thanks again!

Thanks again everyone. I just keep checking my phone. Was really hoping to see arrived at Pittsburgh before midnight. I still have decent hopes for the big order its the six EEs I ordered to replace the ones we lost 2 weeks ago I'm worried about. Rorri has it as bad as I do with chickens and she was excited I found a place with pretty colors for her. The lady will reship but I wont be able to get them for two weeks. So right now I have one 2 week old RIR roo, one 1 week old Australorp pullet, whatever shows up tomorrow and more newborns in two weeks. Will I be able to put them all together? Have the first two in with 20 3 and 4 week old Bantams which seems fine at the moment but probably not for long. Trying to keep brooders under 4 so hubby doesn't kill me...

One of my lavender ameraucana hens is inside today. She's not looking good at all :/ I noticed her last night but couldn't get to her. I pulled her out this morning and brought her in. She got a nice warm bath and blow dry and I mixed her up a cocktail of scrambled eggs, save a chick electrolytes, and a little sulfa...however that's spelled. ..just in case is cocci. I'm hoping she pulls through. She has no interest in food or water, I had to use an eye dropper to get the cocktail down her throat.

It's day 4 of my little GLW chick being sick.

All in all, behavior is totally normal - active, eats/drinks/poops normal. It has sneezes/gurgly breathing and looks like it's gasping for air, which seems to gets worse when it gets worked up (like when I'm reaching in the cage to get it for it's "treatment" of oral Tylan200 and VetRx rub)

I made a video of it for anyone to check out if you can help.
It was just an hour ago (9:30pm) so it is sleepy time! Lol If your volume is up, you might be able to hear it's congestion. Around 1 minute it sneezes. I feel like this is how I am when my allergies are acting up and it's a struggle to breathe. This poor little thing...

Thank you in advance :hugs

Poor little thing. How is she doing? Did you try the intramuscular injection that someone suggested? I'm in Southeastern. PA, I have the insculin needles if you need them.

Thanks @Blarneyeggs. Chick is still acting normal, just sneezing/gasping for air like in the video. Are insulin needles available at drug stores by any chance? I'm worried about how tiny it is, and the fact that I've never given shots before (heck I have to turn away when I get them myself).
