Here is Cinnamon with her little babies. I'm always amazed how she takes them out in cool weather. It's about 40 and wet, and the chicks are happy as can be, out exploring the world. Also, the two turkey poults. One seems a bit darker and larger than the other. Perhaps it's a male?

Congrats! Hope you can get more of the pea chicks. I bet they will help with expenses.
My grass will take a beating this year too. I am hoping as it gets warmer they will stay in the woods more. I would think size is less of an issue if they have fresh ground to work on.
Is this the order with the brabanters? Or the banty Cochins? Any word on either? Just trying to keep a plan.![]()
58 sounds right on track, I'll probably be close to that Jim era by the end of summer. Especially because I'm within driving distance of
Dheltzel!

I hope she turns around for you, we lost a few last fall to what we figured was cocci (weight loss, diarrhea, no respiratory symptoms at all) and it is frustrating because they hide their symptoms so well until it is so late in the process.
I believe insulin needles are available at any drug store. Someone gave me a box for blood draws (which does NOT work at all on standard sized chickens). I've never given injections to a chick either.
.
That is for sure! Very hard to turn them around when they finally show symptoms. But, it can be done sometimes.
I'm sorry, you tried your best.Unfortunately, she just passed away in my armsI will be keeping the last hatch or two to raise out at the end of my hatching season to rebuild my breeding group.![]()

This chick is WAY too sweet. After seeing DHetzel's, I couldn't resist ordering myself some Blue Orpingtons. They are, for sure, my very favodrite breed and color. I haven't had any in quite some time, and I didn't return MsLadyHawk's cabinet incubator yet... I'm up to my eyeballs in chicks right now But am rationalizing.
Hey B:
PM where you found blue Orps....PS: what chicks do you have currently???

I've heard that addicts always blame their dealer . . .
which is sort of nice. I am confused by the present batch because so many perished and I'm not sure what is left. I could ID only about 5 of the 40, but the rest are still a mystery because I've never had these breeds before. The Brabanters are not scheduled to ship until mid-June, but who knows.
The cochins are another deal from another place, and I'm not even ordering them until it seems safe to ship them. Bantams are much more sensitive than LF chicks and even though they might replace them, I just don't like getting dead or dying chicks in the mail. It feels irresponsible to order chicks under conditions that put them at unnecessary risk. Plus, I'm still trying to figure out what colors I want. I recently acquired a crele cochin bantam roo. He is gorgeous and I want to work towards an autosexing cochin, so that means I need partridge pullets. Partridge seems to be a pretty rare color amongst the breeders of cochins. Not sure why, they are very pretty. What to do, what to do . . .
