My coops are full. My coops are full. My coops are full. My coops are full. My coops are full.

You know how hard it is to leave your place with chicks and eggs for other people and none for me? LOL My coops really are full though.

I do have three of blue egg black sexlinks, so I'm good for blue eggs. What color eggs do those silver CCLs of yours lay?

You sure you don't want any turkey poults or silkies? I could bring some for you on your way back through lol

:lau   My coops are full too and that (apparently) doesn't slow me down. You must relinquish this delusion of "control" and go with your gut feeling that you need more than you have now (this is just about chickens, no metaphorical implications).

You mean the Silver Welbars (dark brown like Welsummers) or Silver Ameraucanas (baby blue, like the blue egg sexlinks). CCL's are all "gold", but cream dilutes gold to make it more like silver. Genetically, they are very different but they look similar (especially the roos, the hens have salmon on their chests of they are silver, but cream dilutes that away also).

I just built a second chicken coop this winter and adding the turkey pen, I'm up to three. Does the chicken tractor count for growing out meat birds? That would make 4. I rent and I think my landlord gets twitchy when he sees a new coop. We give him a dozen pretty eggs and a whole frozen chicken to keep him quiet, but I don't know how far I can push that, lol.

I think the silver may have been a silver welbar? I transported some for Aurora last Halloween maybe? They were so pretty!

Thank you, I would love some turkey poults, but we are going to get some bbw for processing this year and hubs doesn't think we can fit both the bbw and heritage birds in the turkey pen (and I have to agree, as much as I'd like both, I don't want them to be cramped into too little space).

Not sure if I mentioned it in an earlier reply, but your little poults didn't have any trouble figuring out the food and water. I showed one or two little poults and the others figured it out in no time.

Glad they figured it out :) That was my only concern with them.

Well, when and if you're ready for some pukes, let me know :)

Only have two turkey eggs in the bator, and one didn't look good the other day. Only 4 Langshan eggs too. I can't wait for my new bator. I think I'm going to put all my turkey eggs I get in it.

So long as someone starts laying again. Wheezy looks like she's trying to go broody, and the other one is still adjusting after no longer having her poults to raise. And her mating injury.

What should I put in my new bator? Probably whatever Dhletzel will give me...

You should hatch all the turkey eggs you get. No one is selling Midget Whites in this area this year.
Keep your old incubator as a hatcher, it sounds like you're going to do staggered hatches and that will help a lot. It keeps the main incubator clean too.
I am getting lots of surplus eggs now. You can hatch all kinds of chicks soon!

I wil lbe hatching all the turkey eggs from here on out. I am borrowing this incubator from a friend, so I will have to give it back soon. I will have to see how I make out with staggered hatches.

when can I let my 7 week old chicks begin to free range and do they go back to the coop or do you have to run them down?

They can free range now if they are okay. Meaning, are there other chickens to protect them? The chicks will follow the others inside too. Otherwise, you might need to guide them inside at night. A trail of treats (cracked corn usually) leading the way works.
There's a few variations, but I'm sure you can figure it out.
